View Full Version : KA NA Tune: worth it?

Say if I had a i/h/e setup (3" exhaust), Walbro fuel pump, 370cc injectors, n60/n62 mafs (have both). Would it even be worth it to get this "tuned"? Or leave off injectors and n60/n62 mafs? I guess I'd also get a wideband installed...

I'm still slightly cloudy on my future plans (KA-T, NA, other swap of some sort, etc). So it would be about next summer before I did anything related to turbo/v6/v8.

It depends on the amount of money you have to burn ATM. If you have some cash laying around and don't mind the fact that you plan on changing it later then you'd probably be happy with what you get for it. If you can't swallow losing out on that money for the tune later then just wait.

I have actualy been in a n/a ka24 with a rom tuned and youre basic bolt ons and the car moved alot better! It felt way more responsive and crisp! So if youre not plannig on turbo for a while but your looking for some fun on the track or street i say go for it!

i think a good tune for a na ka ro actually get power would be the same price as a ka motor.

so if you were to blow the motor somehow you could just replace it instead of tunning it.

idk...

boost it then tune it.

if u have money to kinda waste on tunning a ka just do a small t25 setup THEN tune it?

get a bikirom, and tune with that, so if you do plan on going turbo eventually, then your management will be in place

this is a question, and i am in no way attempting to state a fact:

isn't it pointless to tune a NA car? i understand it would make a difference if there were cams, injectors, porting, bigger plenum, etc.

but yeah tuning without major engine mods?

that's if nissan tuned it for max power from the factory.

which they didnt as they tuned for fuel economy and drivability.

Yup, highly recommended!

A friend and I did a tune for our cars (got some free dyno time) and pull 10-15whp extra by playing with the fuel maps. Stock ecu runs pretty rich.

If you have money to burn then go for it, but if you're like most 240 owners and are on a tight budget then wait. That money will go a lot further on a KA-T tune. It's all about getting the most out of your money, atleast it is for me.

Rom Editor. Now we've purchased a romulator (actually 2), and I have a consult board installed in my car was well. This is for ka24e, btw. Makes tuning the ka24e-t setup easier when you can do it realtime ;)

Running a higher rate fuel pump without need for it places more stress on the fpr. No need for injectors because car doesn't really need it at the moment. Same goes for the maf.

If it were me, I'd just wait till I had everything for the swap. You've gone this long without crazy power. haha.

hmm...I guess I could use the money elsewhere, like finishing up my suspension.

Thanks a lot guys. I guess it *would* be worth it if I were doing it myself, but I wouldn't be.

It takes a lot of money for good NA power. My old car put down 158rwhp with virtually everything on the market, another local did 164rwhp with 370s and an S-AFC.
Still, if you're going turbo anyway the only things not worth buying are an intake and header, everything else (exhaust, flywheel, cams, driveshaft, injectors, ignition, etc.) can all be reused, so if you're just bored and want to throw some money out in the meantime you're not really hurting yourself. And you can always resell the intake and header, especially now that Ebay specials for both are so damn cheap.

get a custom ecu tune from EFI Specialist (Powered by CubeCart) (http://www.efispecialist.com/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=11)

This time around, I have a 10x better platform to start off with, so I want to do it right and not rush into shit.

I'm going to wait it out though...I had a few more opinions/thoughts on another forum too.

Thanks guys for all the advice.

we all are, that's why we're here.

ok, well, maybe just me. i go back and forth between N/A and KA-T on a regular basis, with an occasional VG/VQ stint here and there.

Im like you too. But yeah, I basically dont want to waste money with a shitty setup...but then again, I guess you have to do a trial/error/learning type thing too.

thanks for the informative response with all the supporting evidence.

to add something helpful... NA ECU tunning is worth it. you can gain power even with a stock engine, moreso if you have other mods. and you can certainly gain experience in tunning if you do it yourself. if you pick the right parts they can be used with a KA-T setup just as well. a JWT or Enthalpy ECU would be a waste because you can't really upgrade it without spending more money. an AEM, Biki, Nistune, or Calum would be a good start. KA-t.org is alot more on top of ecu tuning than zilvia is.

I wish someone had a before and after dyno of a NA KA tune...

I've got a dyno appointment on thursday with my rebuilt stock KA (I/H/E) and was considering going with a standalone in the near future... I'll dyno then and post it all up when it happens...
