well adding to the 90' 240sx coupe i also wanted to do a swap but also convert the front to an S13. i know it'll be easier by just getting a front clip and there's the conversion plus SR20DET but now i found out that the S13 engine is a redtop and the S14 is a black top both producing the same hp. So what im confused on is whats the goods and the bads on both?

Actually there is an s13 black and redtop. The s14 was only blacktop. The s13 redtop put out 205, same as the blacktop counterpart, but the blacktop had more torque, iirc. The s14 blacktop used VTC (variable valve timing) for 220hp.

Dont forget the S14 black top also had a T28 compared to the S13 (red and black top's) T25

http://srswap.com/faq_specs.htm

Both S14 and S15 have BB T28... S15 has ceramic impeller. S13 has journal bearing T25.

All S13 SR20DETs have the same specs, same power and torque output... blacktops are just newer (they come from '94-'98 180SXs). the ECUs are slightly different which might make a difference if you're looking for ECU reprogramming or an aftermarket ECU, in that case I suggest asking the person selling the part or service which engines it works with.
