the starter on my s14 sr20 makes a squawking noise on startup when i start my car. is there anyway to oil the bearings in the starter to make it stop doing this?

I think the solenoid is bad and is staying engaged too long. My s14 has been doing this for a year or so now...

It just does it for a second after the car starts...right? Like a rattleing/scratchy noise?

tap on the starter a couple times with a hammer....It will fix it.

replacing the starter would fix it. usually the gear that meshes with the flywheel that is pressed onto the shaft in the starter. as they get old they spin on the shaft. eventually it'll mess up your flywheel.

the starter either needs to be replaced. if its a manual, theres a slight chance its the throwout bearing.

mine does it too, and then stops when the car is on.

Get the car in the air and lay under it as someone starts it a couple times. That noise could come from anywhere..
