Looking for ideas on what to get for a rear strut bar. Or is it even worth it?

Thanks,

Definately worth it. No question about it. :cheesy:
You'll get alot of varying opinions from: you get what you pay for, to there all the same so buy a cheap one.

My opinion: buy a reputable brand, pay a little more, and know you got a quality product, rather than wonder if you should have bought a name brand.

I personally have a set of front and rear Cusco bars coming for my 98 s14.

Oh, BTW, try doing a search on old threads. There's been alot of them about STBs so people might be a little less likely to respond to your thread. (In fact, there's been a few in the last couple of weeks, try looking back a couple of pages on old topics.) Hope its helpful.

I appreciate that fact that (in general) this topic has been discussed before, but I'm looking for specific info on the S14, not the S13. The old posts all tend to discuss the theory behind mounting the strut bar, or which one is better than the other. What I'm looking for is any info on actually being able to purchase a rear strut tower bar for a 1995 240sx (S14). They are very difficult to find. So far I believe that only CUSCO and (possibly) GReddy make them. I've been to PDM and they only carry fronts for the S14.

Has any S14 owner actually bought and installed one on thier car? If so, which brand and where did you get it?

Thanks,

Cusco is the way to go IMHO. But you will notice the dif with any bar.

I just ordered the Cusco Rear Triangle Bar and the Cusco Front Carbon Fiber Bar for my s13. Check out Enjukuracing.com for some good prices.

why was the front one so in-expensive and the rear is always upwards of $175 dollars, i can't afford that at all

Its bigger.

Just get a cheap strut bar.

PDM-Racing.com has a super special going on, but im not sure if he sells the rear bars.

I believe Eibach makes those too. I've been lookin for them for awhile and finally found them. Once I pay off my credit card bills from Christmas, I'm gonna get them. Here's where you can find them:
http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com/bars.html
go to Eibach and scroll down.
They're at a good price too and Eibach always makes pretty good quality stuff.

you can get both on ebay for like 100, but the thing is, you have to cut stuff to get to the nuts. tommorow - fold down your seat, move the carpeting, and LOOK at whats there. thats what youll have to deal with so take that into concederation

All I gotta say is NISMO BABY! =) Only one that goes above the rear parcel shelf, and YES it tightened up the back end quite a bit. It's probably one of the pricer ones, next to the Cusco Carbon Fiber RSTB. $240 + shipping.

Another alternative are the Pilot strut bars, but unfortuantely they do not make it for the S14 rear, just the front, but are available in front and rear for all S13's except convertibles.

We have them for $40 a poop also. They are smiliar if not the same as the PDM STB we think.

ok, i need a rear strut bar n think i'm gonna get the cusco one (has there been a cheaper one made yet besides OBX?), but what's the difference in the 'OS' n 'AS' ones. btw, i need the one that goes right under the rear speaker panel shelf thingy.

hey Blank! i just ordered Cusco front & rear bars. there r NO cheap bars for the rear of S14 from what i found.... only the S13. the S14 rear bar only mounts ABOVE the speaker panel. if u look in your trunk at the top of the strut tower, there is a metal "turret" going up to the speaker panel....it is solid all the way around. there is no "hole" or "slot" for the bar to pass thru.....thus it has to go above the panel. only the JDM-spec manufacturers make em! this applies to all 95-98.
the front OBX bar fits S13 and IIRC the S14 (i havent put my hood on yet so i dont know if OBX fits.....i'll try it soon. i read a post that said it hit the underside of the low-slung S14 hood...??)

guess, i just meant the are right under the speaker shelf. unfortunately i had some hydro hoses n what not all around that surrounding area so specific things had to be taken out when the previous owners installed the hydro's. n there's no junked s14's around here so i can't exactly restore it to stock n see how it's supposed to be around there. i think i'm gonna get that cusco one from enjukuracing.com (rear, but do i order the os or as one?). my car came w/ a front strut bar so i don't know what the difference is when placing an order for the rear one. oh yeah, my rear suspension "clunks" b/c i'm missing something, but i'm not sure what right in that area where the rear strut bar mounts. how is the top of all that mounted so maybe i can ghetto rig it for a little while to keep down the noise. thanks.

OMG....you came out!! :o did u sell the hydros?? the clunking may be something at the top of the rear shock assembly. get a factory pic of it to see the various parts. maybe someone here has a FSM and can copy it for ya?? often the spring has a rubber seat that may be damaged....??
the o/s Cusco is oval shaped. the a/s is round. both r aluminum. i'd match it to ur front bar.....but keep in mind dood, u will have to cut holes in ur speaker panel so the brackets can poke up thru the panel.....then the bar mounts from bracket to bracket above the panel. u'll see it from inside the car and thru the back window.

well i've said i've had hydro's before . it's definitely at the top of the rear shock assembly, if nebody can take some pics of it right under the speaker shelf that would be really helpful. i don't mind cutting throught my rear speaker shelf to fit the rear strut bar, hopefully i won't screw it up 2 bad.

You can get ones that go under the rear deck so you wouldn't have to get ones everybody could see...although you would still have to cut something.

just that i think i need to really tighten up that area.

You mean the ones underneath don't work as well?? I'm looking to get a rear one too but I'd rather not have it showing in my rear window. I can't find one that goes underneath right now but I've seen atleast one, maybe two other companies that make them.

hold on, i need some clarification. the nismo rear stb will sit in my trunk on that little shelf, and all others are gonna sit on top of my speakers (inthe passenger compartment)? is this correct?

yenpit

u cant mount a rear strut bar in an S14 in the trunk area like an S13. OBX listed a bar for S14 but it doesnt fit S14, only S13 (its a decent bar, OBX is just ignorant sometimes!). the only way to possibly do it would be to hack holes in the strut tower, which i would not recommend. take a look from in ur 95-98 trunk at the top of the inner fender well, u'll see what i mean. u can not see the 2 strut mount bolts except from the top under the fiber speaker panel. far as i can tell only hi $ JDM rear bars. let me know if someone finds otherwise!!

OK my rear strut bar should be coming in around next week. Its from JIC magic, and www.autoimaging.com sells it. I got it for $174.99 shipped. JIC is JDM, and I hear they're a really good company. Plus, its less than the Cusco RSB that everyone keeps talking about. Thats for the S14 by the way. Check it out!
