emblems

My dad and I are going to paint my S14.  How do we get the emblems off the front hood and the back end?  I've heard using dental floss works.  I just want to make sure that they aren't bolted on.  When the car is painted, how do I get them back on?

As for getting them back on, it's a far bigger pain.

I did it recently. you can pick up the same sort of foam double-sided adhesive they use to attach it at the factory from napa, or any auto-parts store for...I think about 2-3 dollars, then you lay, in as many rows as is necessary, the tape across the emblems on a cutting board. Then use an X-acto knife or any other really sharp, fine-tipped knife to cut the excess tape away. Get the bits that the knife wouldn't quite get with tweezers. peel off backing of tape, attach to car, carefully tweeze anything that you might've missed. enjoy.

Also, don't bend the emblems. it makes them angry, and more importantly broken. I almost learned that the hard way.
