crank angle sensor in the tranny? the guy is full of shit, you literally can't rev the car over 5200 with the clutch down? Whats your setup?

It must be a s14. If so then its probably the crank position sensor he was talking about. But the crank position sensor does not effect engine performance at all. It only gives you a CEL.

Do what statik and press your clutch to the flood and rev, see how high it will go. If you still can only rev to 5,200 rpm then its probably an engine problem; not transmission. Something else to wonder is if maybe the tachometer isn't working right. Maybe the tachometer is off and is only reads 5,200 rpm when really you are hitting the engines redline?

Post back with more info about you setup so we can help you out.

If the 5th gear switch is stuck...it'll ALWAYS tell the ECU you're in 5th...and the back-up speed limiter is ~5000rpm.

UNPLUG your 5th gear switch, make sure the wires aren't shorted together...and it'll be fixed.

The actual fix, of course...is buying a working 5th gear switch...but you can test just by unplugging it.

sorry i didnt give a very good description heres the problem and it has been a problem for 4 months. It is if i have a rewv limiter at 5200 rpm's it cuts off the power similar to when you would bhit your 6500 stock redline on a stock ka. yes my car is an s14 and i just want to fix this problem the cars potential is being seriously hampered.

also in regards to your suggestion orion where is the 5th gear switch at i will try and do that.

^^^ Unplug the 5th gear switch, and watch it go to the proper redline.

EDIT, sorry, forgot the location:

Pass side of the trans, 2nd switch from the front (1st one is the reverse light switch)

it may be that...but I'm having a very similar problem on my s13 ka..but it's because the knock sensor isn't hooked up right now... I can floor it it'll go to ~5,200rpm (clutch in and out)... then when I hit 5k if I ease up on the gas it can get it past 6k...only done it twice...lol..

My car has this problems sometimes, no idea what it is. When im in 3rd and floor it the car just stops like at 4k like its fuel cut or rev limiter or something. If i shift or try again in couple secs no problem.. Happened two or three times but i have no idea what it is.

Please let us know how it goes, I'm having the same problem right now in my S13 KA. Everytime I hit 5K it cuts off in every gear (clutch in and out).

When I bought my car (S13 thought) It wouldn't go over about 5000 and when i would get to 5000 the wipers would start by themselves and some warning lights would light up in the dash, it was an 80 amp fuse that was blown !!!! thats it !! so check your fuses .

I'd check the 5th gear switch first though !!

wow, glad you found out the problem and fixed it!

It worked!! I disconnected the 5th gear sensor and it goes pass 5K rpms!
Thanks Orion:S14!

Are there any long term affects if I just leave it disconnected?

None - - > It has 2 uses: Cruise control and back-up speed limiter.

...and you'll get a CEL on S14's.
