I have an S14 SR20DET with an HKS Hi-Power exhaust and I love it, but....I wish I just had a louder Exhaust. Now is there anything out there that I can do to make my SR20 louder short of going open down pipe? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Larger piping
Less bends
No resonator

... why does this question seem to be almost surreal?

Larger than 3 in? It's a full HKS exhaust. Test pipe, down pipe,...Everything.

Louder? I did read that right, correct? Replace the muffler with a cherry bomb... or nothing

drive your car real hard and get the exhaust hot...then get a garden hose and spray water in the muffler....start your car again and watch metal shrapnel shoot out...bam instant louder exhaust

I like the last idea. That would be pretty bad. I've also heard about the Buddy Club. About how much do they run? $400-500

Larger piping has been done, there was a member a while back who had 3.5"
Personally, I have 3" custom with a resonator and a cat, and it is PLENTY loud to me, my neighbors complain to my grandmother, who lives down the street that I make a lot of noise leaving for work at 715am.
I can't imagine WHY you would want it louder.

3" downpipe. Followed by 3" straight pipe.

I think I'm gonna have to drop the HKS and just go straight pipe all the way back. I've seen it before on Mike Peters, aka Bubba Drift's, car and it looked baller as fuck.

Install an electric cutout. Loud at the flip of a switch.

Just whatever you do, do not butcher your nice ass exhaust. Its way more worth it to sell it and then get something else. Just go to a muffler shop and get a 3'' crush bent exhaust made with one un chambered muffler. You can get an almost completely straight shot so the little kinks there will be wont matter. This is Florida too, rust issues arent that bad so no worries for stainless.

better yet, get a bigger turbo. It'll definitely make it louder. Little ass stock turbo choking all the noise up

would getting a test pipe make an exhaust considerably louder?

oh yeah. Cats are super restrictive. Exhaust manifolds add A LOT of sound as well.

^He already has test pipe. You could go with apexi GT spec, Ive heard they are loud as hell, but they are high and ricey. I am guessing you got the HKS in the first place because you didnt want that sound. Go with the Buddy Club Spec II and you'll be a happy camper.

Ok go to your local muffler shop have them make a custom 3 1/2" straight pipe and have them do a double tip like the Dart Izumi , No silencer. no resinator, no cat, no passing cops, no sneeking out...lol
Have fun

^ I beg to differ. I have an apexi gt spec and it is not ricey sounding at all. I also have a test pipe and full 3" exhaust. Downpipe and outlet pipe.

Yeah same here, I had a gt spec but sold it cause i've always get pulled over when i don't put on the silencer. Overall this muffler is really good for a loud sound, no ricey noise, just low and loud. ^_^....oh yeah I didnt even have a test pipe so, since u have one, it'll be loud as fuk :coolugh:

Trust TR Power Evolution II. I had that on my car for a while and the house would rattle while the turbo timer counted down. I set off car alarms everywhere I went. I could call people and hear my car on their cellphone while I was a block away. Harley guys would look at me because I was louder than their bikes. I called GReddy to see if they had a silencer for it and no one makes one big enough. It came with a test pipe that goes from 3" to 3.7ish iirc. I could fit my arm in it. It was nice because people would know I was behind them. It's a miracle I never got a ref ticket.

I got it off some guy on CL who picked it up in Japan. Other than that, I don't know if anyone sells it in the US.

First off let me say thanks for all the help. I got so many ideas I don't know what to do with them. I've already had to listen toone of your suggestions....Cause I blew my turbo 2 days ago. So i have to get a new one. I already had a S15 turbo on it running 340 to the wheels at 18 lbs. of boost. Now I have found a Garret GT28RS for 350 so I'm gonna get it. Will I be making much more HP or just a lil bit?

hey! You did the thing I said would be best. It'll definitely be louder like that. Better yet. Keep your exhaust and with the new turbo I dont trust/believe weld an external wastegate on your stock manifold. That'll make it good and loud.

Never thought i would say this but "to get a louder exaust" run it right outta the engine bay straight header! then you can blast people in the face with the smoke too!

hey Jeratli, I have a Q-Tec e-cut out welded onto the middle of the down pipe. I been thinking about selling the whole setup. Its perfect for being loud/ freeflow exhaust and quiet/low end power with a push of a switch.

PM me if your interested.

Seeing as though the turbo kind of acts as a muffler, of sorts, I would get a different exhaust. Plus, I'd think about picking up that hi-power from you. :-D

The loudest exhausts i've ever heard have been the ebay ones, fyi.
