Hey dudes.

I have a problem with my speedometer. Ok so it's a 1991 1980sx with no mods other than a manual turbo timer and the speedo is doing strange things. Basically it will work for the first 5-10 minutes of driving and then it'll drop to 0 and flutter all over the place after that. Sometimes it will start working again for no apparent reason. Is it just a loose connection somewhere?

Any of you guys have any thoughts?

hey dude....

Get under your car and check the connector for the speedo. It's the last plug at the back of your tranny. Might be a bad sensor. Also check your fuses.

check your cluster wiring and sub harness and or your speed sensor
keep it mind it's an 18 year old car

Speedometer failure is common on S13s. Check all connections, and if nothing is found, replace the speedometer display. Any year S13 speedometer will swap in.

Keep in mind that model year cars were usually built some time in the previous calendar year. So a 1991 model could have been built some time in the summer or fall of 1990. On top of that, the actual parts could have actually been built quite some time before final assembly.

ummmm...nah. Still don't add up.

You could just as easily go the other way with it. Car made mid 1991, actually sold end of year....so parts are really only used since 1992.... 15 years.

We both win.... :)

Don't forget sales people and dock workers joyriding.

Thanks guys. Seeing as how it will work the connection or sensor being loose or faulty sounds like it might be the problem. I'll check that and the fuses.

Yah it's exactly like that.

Did you try those things? Did you fix it?
