View Full Version : RB26 in a camaro or an S10...

I'm looking to do another RB26 swap.

I don't know if any of you guys remember me, but i had a RHD 240 w/ single turbo converted RB26 w/ like 15G in JDM motor internals. It was for sale on here for a while.

I thought i could replace the 240 with an elise, but it's too slow. then i tried another sti, but it still lacks that DIY, mash up appeal that i am going for. I really want a car that i can not feel weird about completely gutting... Neither of my current cars will afford me that luxury... i always think back to my 240...

Anyway, it's gone, but i have a line on an R32 GTR swap for 3500 bucks. It's actually in a running skyline right near my house, leakdown is good, compression is good. Motor is solid, drives well. I know this is a good price for a swap, but I am torn about what to put it in. RB26 240SX = old news, so i need something with a new and interesting twist.

In fact, i almost want to stay away from an import chassis entirely for 2 reasons.

1) it will be funny if it's in a domestic
2) parts/shell will be WAY cheaper

Is anyone aware of this swap being done on any mid 80s to pre OBD2 cars?

For reference, is the RB much longer than an LS1? I have been around the RB alot, but not so much an LS1... I know they do LS1 swaps into the S10, and i'd really like a truck... i think that's the direction i am going to pursue. Christ, it only weighs 2650 lbs in stock form...

However, i also have a potential 3rd gen Fbody chassis that i can scoop up for under 300 bucks... That would be a good time...

RB26 in a S12 FTW :D

Sir
12-04-2006, 02:55 PM
S10 would be easiest/cheapest and total sleeper.

12-04-2006, 02:57 PM
i'm not sure about the s10, it is possible, but you would have to cut into the firewall because they are quite small, the ls1 swap fits nicely, but idk bout another 6" longer engine in there with rad...and what not, but if you were to do a v-mount setup, possibly

Dude put it in a first Gen S10 (1984-1993?). And I wanna see some crazy wheel fitment.

yah a friend I know has a sr20 hardbody pick up, and it owns, He was replacing the rearend to a subframe last I talked to him. Such a sleeper, when we cruse on the freeway it is a sight to see. :keke:

I remember a long time ago I saw on TV some guy had a Toyota Tacoma with a Supra engine, and he took the Tacoma and Supra emblems and made it spell "Taco Sup". Did anyone else see that?

This all sounds like bull shit to me. Your best option would be any of the Jeeps. They love the i6 so that gives you the room you want. I wouldnt want to spend that much money to just be funny.

id at least do the camaro. at least put it in a halfway sports car. instead of like cruising around on leaf springs and drop spindles. gross.

ctnewman
12-04-2006, 05:12 PM
keep in mind that i already have a track car and an AX car. This is mostly for going straight...

though i did find a fairly decent s13 chassis locally for a decent price... it's just rehash for me. and it would never see the power that my other one had...

you had an elise and an sti and youre worried about the cost of a hardbody shell for a $3500 motor?

Convert a Scion TC to RWD and drop an RB in it or get a 510 and do an LS1 swap.

it really doesnt matter what you choose. yet useing a 3rd gen camaro/trans am would be the shit, since i have an lt trans am. also the hard body s10 would be a bad ass sleeper since you have a 4 (or 6 cyl) body, with a rb turning the wheels. the burnouts and doughnuts would be ungodly, but you would need to beef up the suspension. if you chose an old style muscle car you would be tokyo drifting it, which i would do if i had the money (i dont care what ppl say). the bmw idea is a good one b/c you would have the bmw looks and the rb motor. these are just my opinion, but do what you want/like. its your car and you are wanting something different, so go for it. what ever you choose im sure you would be happy with. just let us know how things turn out and what car you end up choosing.

Won't get much more out of the rb than some redneck with an LS1, so there goes your "wow" factor if you put it in a camaro. I say do the truck of the old beemer - you can find those shells around cheap too, cause the motors are expensive as hell to maintain after a while. Keep us posted.

I ignored the comments in this thread, but I would ask why you would skip the obvious, better performing and more cost-effective option of putting a small block in an S10 or a Camaro? You'd have a billion and a half years of aftermarket support, established lines of instruction (compared to doing EVERYTHING yourself), and will have money left over for modifications, which will take it even FURTHER over on the performance side of things.

I am going to look at the E30 this week...

I say a conquest TSI, its RWD and pretty much already widebodied so wheel fitment wouldn't be a problem. Plus it looks nice for a 20 year old car.

ls1 is lighter/easier to get parts for.

again

you're a moron.

put a torqueless inline 6 with one less gear and 1000x harder to find parts for into an already crammed engine bay, with the v8 your taking out being lighter, with a better tranny bla bla bla bla

this was actually considered quite heavily, as a friend of mine has a spare one in his garage, however, i am not going to mod either of my newer cars much more because of increasing smog regulations etc... also, the resale on elises is going down so fast, i'd hate to make it any worse!

removed the oilpan. I cut of the dif housing. Going to mill off the extra, then weld the holes closed. It only weighs a few pounds more than a steel one and it's sturdier and provides better baffling and heat transfer. Hopefully it will clear the e30 X member.

I am going to use the rb26 transmission and just notch the transmission tunnel as needed. It's only about 50 lbs heavier than the rb25det unit and it's much cheaper. I'll keep posting pics. I still havent recieved the E30... hopefully sometime this week.
