So a couple days ago I put some coolant in my car b/c I noticed that the temp. gauge got hot pretty fast. So i put some in and thought everything was alright---> WRONG! So tonight I was driving and I noticed the temp gauge reach H again. But I thought to myself how could this be if I just put coolant in. lol. So I put the heat on and the temp went down for only a couple seconds then went back up. Anyway, I thought I could make it home w/o stopping and then when I got home I would check things out. Well, when I was 5 min away I think I heard detenation. It was a rattling sound in the engine. Well, when I got home I lifted the hood and a lot of smoke emenated from the compartment. I opened the radiator cap (it was COLD) and there was nothing in there. I Poured some coolant in and a LOT of smoke came out as if it were a geisyer (sp?) . Well, what exactly can i Do to see if my engine is ok?

so if I do a compression test and everything's within spec does that mean that my engines' fine?
