View Full Version : 89 240sx will not start.

Hey all, I am new here.

Anyway, I was running low on water, and oil or something, water was on the min line, filled it up again, oil was also on the minimum and I filled that up too..

Anyway, it cranks, acts like it wants to start but fizzles out...

How it happened: I had my timing change replaced a while back, when I started the car it sputtered, like it was misfiring.. Anyway the mechanic came out, wiggled the fuel injector plugs and it was fine..

So, I tried starting it yesterday, it started fine but sputtered like it was only using 2 or 3 cylinders.. I popped the hood and messed with the connections and then it shut off..

Does anyone know something I can do at home, I cannot afford to have it towed :-(

Thanks in advance,

Oh man this gave me a headache. What do you mean by fizzles out? What connections did you mess with for it to shut off? Is it throwing a CEL (check engine light)? If it is, check the codes first.

No lights, I start it, it sounds normal in the turning over phase but well, it sounds like it is pumping the cylinders and it just shuts off...

The fuel injector wires (not sure what these are called..)

Is it even getting fuel?

I am no expert in this, but I think when I wiggled the fuel injector wires, it stopped fuel from entering which is why it will not turn on..

The reason I wiggled them is because my mechanic did to fix the misfiring when I was leaving his shop a few months ago...

I have no idea if it is receiving fuel..

I have the Nissan 240SX 1989 500+page Service manual.. I was thinking of taking the wires off and recrimping them (But not sure which crimper to use etc etc...)

Any help is appreciated :-)

I thought I should add a few pictures to this..

Went outside real quick and snapped 4 shots of which connections I wiggled..

I played with the MAF I think it is (Mass AirFlow sensor plug ontop of the stock air filter unit) and it fired RIGHT UP.

Have a rough idle that goes to 500 / 600, but it clears up after a few seconds...

I still need to reattach the "staples" for each of the injector clips and 2 others which I cleaned out.

I am posting this as a resolution for those of you that encounter the same problem..

ALSO... I had it running where it would stall if I went under 1k rpm, and it would rev limit and bounce off of 2500 rpm...

Keywords: rev 2500 stall bog injector fuel spark plug

Thank you to everyone for allyour help, I am sure I will stay a member and communicate with everyone about other random stuff :-)
