I removed my manifolds on my Redtop SR and noticed that in cylinder #2 the left exhaust valve has a little oil on the stem. Does this mean I have a leaky valve?

What should I do about the problem?

Dont have the money for brand new head like valves, retainers, and springs

It is not a leaky valve. It is leaky valve guide seals, which involves removing the valve retainers, springs , upper timing chain, cams, and the head if you don't have the tools to change them with the head on.

Is your car smoking?

No smoke at idle or event at open throttle. I took my motor out to replace my oil pump and rear seal, new timing chain, tensioner etc. I was planning on taking the head to someone and have it checked, then install a new headgasket and arp headstuds but now i think I might need a new valve guide seal and valve. Is it cost effective to replace the seals and valves with oem parts and what is the cost for labor? I can pull the head off and bring it to someone but who, a machine shop? As you know you get what you pay for.

Find a trust worthy mechenic shop, or head shop. If you get new valves they will need to be seated to the seats, new valves wont seal if they havent been seated. As far as prices, you will have to call around and find out.

Seated to the seats? Is that a technique done to align the valves properly? Are we talking about a job that will cost over 500:smash:

Called a shop this morning (Speedlab) down in Mia. Specialize in building 240s and Zs. They do SR's. They will do the work for $150: cleaned, checked for cracks and intallation of valve guide seals. This shop is the only credible place I would trust to take care of this job. That's why Im driving 60+ miles to Miami. Seem like a decent price?
