hey so I tried to do a search but the button isn't working for some reason :(
if this has been covered can someone link me to it ?

but I have a question, I'm ordering a Nismo 2way LSD and I want to put in a 3.83 final drive to it. does anyone know where I can order one ? one shop here said 700us for it, just wondering if I can find it cheaper...its only a final gear drive shouldn't be that much right ?

thanks guys

IIRC, there's no 3.83 option for R200's

3.69
3.92
4.08
4.36
4.63

Closest is the Infiniti J30 rear end with 3.92:1...look for a '95-96 for a bolt-in deal.

I cant do a trade deal cuz I have no cash haha and I live in Canada, it looks like your in Virginia :(

how big of a difference is the 3.92 ? longer all around or just top end ?

top end. I got a 4.3 for my buddy to get him quicket acceleration but you lose some top speed. stock is 4.08

Wrong. Stock is 4.08. Try again.

R32 GTS-T and Type M use the 4.36
J30 uses 3.92
S15 uses 3.69

4.63 is a Motorsports part.

ok, based on the information you fellows have given me so far I've decided on the J30 3.92 doesn't kill off all my accell, but gives me what I want in the end :D

and crusing in 5th at a slightly lower rpm is what I want :D, more powerband to wipe the vettes with

There is a Q45 that used the R200 to I think that had a 3.5X ring gear.

3.54. It'd be a pig below 80mph.

Well IMHO the 3.83 final drive is a bit low, but to each their own . . . you will have a highway monster with gearing like that.

As for your cheepest alternative, I suggest using the final drive from a J30 R200V. Get one from somebody who had one and destroyed it. Its a 3.9 rear instead of the 3.83 you are looking for.

Its not bad. The car pulls like an animal over 100mph . . . its also good for highway trips. I also still managed to run a 13 second pass at the 1/4 mile track.

Ive been looking into changing my final drive out too... It always bothered me when ppl would ride in my 240, pullin bout 80, engine at like 3800 and they look over and say "dude arent you supposed to shift up?"... and its really loud at 70mph~3000 rpm cuz between 3-4k my exhausr resonates through the car like a tin can... and i like better mileage.

You can change the final drive to whatever you want, and you still couldn't touch a vette.

Keep your wangan battle racing dreams at home and spair some people's lives.

Changing your final drive just to change how your exhaust sounds is one of the stupidest things I've heard today. Instead of messing around with your final drive, why don't you fix your car since it rattles so bad, and put on a higher quality exhaust.

If your rpm's are too high while you're SPEEDING, then slow the fuck down.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for and have changed final drives, but your reasons are all wrong.

I highly suggest people who do RB and CA swaps to change to a final drive suited better for their motor.

As for the origonal posters question, around $700 is right. You can pick up a used one for around $500. I believe Aaron (Dousan PG) was selling one.

And being as how it's a nissan part, contact superior nissan, or your local dealer.

4.6 is too high for stock gearing
if u want a bump up from stock, i'd go 4.3
it will run fine and dcent

i got my LSD sold and stuff.

final drives, was selling it, already did
it was snatched up REAL fast.

Not exclusively, the Nissan Largo van in Japan uses an R200 with 4.6 gears. A friend of mine was using that after grenading his stock gears with repeated drag radial launches with 385 rwhp.

I'm using a Cusco 2-way with 4.3 gears & an OS Giken full Crossmission, which has different ratios than stock in 1-3 gears.

Um.. first off, 80mph is normal cruising speeds around where i live.... Anything below that, and old ppl run you over. Secondly, the MAIN reason i want to change my final drive is so i can get better mileage..but yes, i do need a better exhaust, or just new gaskets and have it welded (pacesetter 3 piece, clamps are teh gay).

oh, almost forgot.... suck a cock.

So you want a sr or rb or ca or some other fanboy dream motor. then you cry about milage? go buy a previa change your tampon and come see me in a week.

No, your stupidity completely blinds you from my point. If i wanted high gas mileage, I would have bought a civic. But no, 4 years ago i bought my 240. I want to squeeze a bit more top end out of the car, which also has the effect of giving me better mileage, dick. Fanboy motor? no thats the SR... I cruise the highways a lot, so less rpm's means less work the motor has to do to keep a constant speed and also has better mileage, which makes my wallt happy. Why dont you go take some midol and come back when you can accept others' opinions instead of being a closed minded ass about it.

lol, lowered rpm, but you will be increasing load, given that not driving around with the engine wound up will save you some gas...

I AM LOOKING FOR A 4.6!!

reason: My car lives on the back roads. I rarely see 80mph

remember this: a stock 205/55/16 IS THE SAME OVERALL DIAMETER AS A 255/40ZR17!!!! :)

this is what I use to calulate final ring and pinions for Jeep installs. Very handy to figure out exactly what you need for what type of driving you do.

courtesy nissan used to have the 3.7 & 3.9 nissan motorsports fd's, but i dont think they make them anymore. they still have 4.3 and 4.6 fd's for under $500 iirc http://www.courtesyparts.com/nms/s14/s14_2.html

I'm tempted to to get a 4.6 fd myself. I have a n/a civic with a ats 4.9 fd, on an already short geared b16 tranny w/ lightweight flywheel. the short gearing is a lot of fun, seems to accel a bit quicker, and comes in handy on the track. with my civic, im usually a bit over 4k rpm, cruising on 5th gear, 75mph. it is a bit annoying, but the payoff is worth it imo.

Id imagine a 4.6 would also have a similar desirable effect on the sr20det. if anyone has feedback with the 4.6 w/ track driving exp, that would be great. :)

Fuel economy and increased noise would be the only drawback i can think of, but thats a compromise id be willing to deal with. i don't dd my 240 either, which makes things more tolerable.

the civic i have with the 4.9 fd, gets around 20-22mpg. it has a n/a lsvtec 1.8l w/ around 11:1 comp. i don't drive this car much at all. the fd/tranny was thrown in the same time as the motor though, so unfortunately i couldn't say how much the fd effected fuel economy. could be that the motor was getting crappy mileage to begin with (i know it runs a bit rich at all times). it would be great if someone has mileage info, before & after throwing in a higher fd. i have no idea how much effect it has, but it would be interesting to know.

mileage isn't much of an issue for the most part. i still have a pos beater that gets around 33-36 mpg. in the worst case scenario, id prob have to buy an extra fill up at a hdpe track event.
