unplug the negative battery terminal, let it sit for about 15 minutes, then put it back on.

OR, go to your ecu and put it in mode iv. Just remember though, even if you keep resetting the ecu, if you still have that problem, it'll jsut come back. Might as well fix it...

Remember to let the car idle for about 10 minutes afterwards.

Why would he get shocked?

There is no need to unplug the battery.

But if you were to do this method, you unplug the positive and negative then touch them together for a few minutes. Then after that the code might be cleared.

But the propper method is to go to your ecu and pull the codes.

how do u reset the ecu?

I searched and found several instruction on how to reset or clear the trouble code. None of them work after several tries.

I did more research and found this which eventually worked for me:

After you read the code, you can start the engine
Turn the bolt back to the clockwise position for at least 2 seconds(While running)
Turn it back to the counterclockwise position
Now shut the car and then start it again, this should of removed the code."
