do weld a cover over where the egr pipe was??? how bad will my car run w/out it. i just bought this car and the guy who had it before me used some high heat putty stuff? to put it on, he said the threads for the bolts were stripped. i figure i could tap it but am looking into just eliminating it all together.
thanks for anyhelp

Yeah... You should just be able to plug the pipe up and plug the hole up, and you shouldn't throw a code. If everything is plugged, the ECU will think that everything is doing its job, and not set off the light. Also, you shouldn't have a change in driveablility either. It just sucks some exhaust and reburns it. But... mine's on for now, so I can't tell you from experience.

The EGR system plays a role in keeping your engine temperature down.....
I had a bad EGR valve and it ended up contributing to a blown head gasket. I'd keep it on if I were you.

well it is leaking like crazy now, my car sounds like someone punched a hole through the muffler. and i can't really seal it cuz of the bad threads......???? well you think i could just weld inplace of a gasket???

You could either
a) Tap into the EGR fitting on the exhaust and re-thread it a size larger, and then run the fitting through a dye.
or
b) Seal up that hole and make a new hole in the exhaust, and weld a new fitting in there.
or
c) Go to FreshAlloy and search for EGR removal. And everyone with a CUSTOM turbo setup has removed their EGR and not seen anything bad, or any codes.
