Ok, this is really stupid.

I accidentally shorted the ignition switched power to the ECU. this blew out a trace on the board that I managed to fix. car runs great now but here's the hitch.

IT WON"T TURN OFF!!!

I think it backfed the system and cooked a relay. I'm not sure which relay or where the relays are even at.

Its a 89 coupe (power options) with a s13 blacktop.

Help!

Just pull the fuel pump fuse out, for it to shut down.

I've looked thru the FSM and there's so many possibilities. I'll guess I'll start at the switch and start working my way to the ecu.

I can get it to shut off by pulling the fuel pump/injector relay in the engine compartment. that cuts the ignition power for some reason.

if you want a temporary solution, do what koukis14 said... keep one foot on the brake... and pop your clutch.

*stall* engine off

problem is the dash engine lights, fuel pump and ecu are still on unless i pull the fuel/ignition relay.

my car does that only if i dont start it and put it into the power position... i just have to start my car then turn it off again... maybe that will work for you but not sure

I've had that happen with a faulty turbo timer.. it would keep the car on even with the key pulled out. Don't know if that would apply to you, but something to check.

Could just wire a switch into the ignition line from the key switch. Not the most elegant solution, but would do the trick. And, good extra security if the switch were hidden.

do you have a turbo timer? If you do try unplugging it.

I blew my main fuse once when I was working on my alt. After that the car wouldn't turn off with the key. I tracked it down to the turbo timer, and once I unplugged it, everything went back to normal.
