Ok.  Here is more shyt with this car!

I brought into the shop today cuz I couldnt find the reason
for black smoke.  All they found is a dirty throttle body.

However ,the car is still riding slugglish.  No more black smoke,
but its riding VERY slugglish.  I did FULL tuneup.

I know I have the rattle... sounds like a chain or tensioner.
Can a faulty tensioner cause slugglish behavior? Or poor
acceleration? is this possible?  I AM LOSING MY MIND,
I THINK THIS 240 WAS A BAD BUY! grrr. what do I do!

Thanks again!

i assume that it could because it would cause your crank and cams are connected by the chain. I think there's some way you can check the play on the chain to see if it needs to be replaced. I've read that you don't need the chain guide. How many miles you got?

on startup and shit.  and power is droppin fast on
this car.

injectors could be jacked or stuff related to the spark plugs

If your chain is rattling all the time, your chain may be stretched. This severly affects the timing which causes the poor performance your talking about. Unless the 58,000 miles were very hard, I would think your block would be in pretty good shape. Get a timing gun and check your timing.

pop the valve over off and check the chain for excess movement, and wear on the chain.  More than likely the lower chain tensioner is stuck.  If it is, it would cause excess movement of the chain and throw off your timing badly (like Geeaj said).  This is a fairly common problem if somebody didn't watch their oil changes, and put crap oil in it.  The lower guide uses oil pressure to keep the chain tight, but sometimes gets oil gunked up around it and gets stuck.

If you do notice that it is loose, or hell it making all that noise would probably be reason enough for me, take the from chain cover off, and check that tensioner. (lower tension on upper chain) remove the upper chain guide while your there.

There are some tricks to this, but I can't remember off the top of my head sorry.

Yea.  This sucks.  I am gonna bring it in tomorrow.

I decided to have the tensioners, guide (replaced) and timing chain all done.  Just to be safe.  What is 500 of work compared to 5 grand for a new engine!  I mean ... sure!
It goes, SR20 here I come! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

But serious, yes, I advanced the timing last night cuz it felt
like i was barely moving, like I was in slow motion!
So now my idle is about 1000 <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

Also, when I put my air conditioning on, I feel like I lost 50 horses... i DONT move anyway! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

definately, timing related right?

The timing being retarded would cause you to be real rich too, so if you smell the Cat, or have black soot on your tail pipe... &nbsp;that would indicate timing. &nbsp;your gas mileage would suck too.
