i bought this car with an Sr20 recently, anyhow it has an agressive set up, too much for my liking.

it has Tomei - 270 In & Ex 12.5 lift cams
Tomei racing valve springs
Tomei rocker arm stopper

This set up is more for high end and top speed. I have little low end, and very rough idle. Not my kind of set up. so im looking to get something a little milder.

I want Tomei - 256 in & Ex 11.5 lift cams

I heard this is a good street set up. Anyhow here is my question.

Do i need to also remove the springs and rocker arm stoppers to stocker or will the other upgraded stuff work. I read that stiffer springs and any valve train upgrades is needed past 260 deg. is this true? so will my upgraded springs and arm stoppers cause a problem if i change to something milder.

Thanks

You will be ok just swapping the cams. The valve springs and RAS are just saftey measures to prevent valve float and rocker arm failure. Stay on the safe side, keep them in. RAS are pretty much required with any cams (and a good idea even w/ stock cams) anyway.

If you want something less aggressive, think bout getting any step 1 HKS cams. 264/272 setup is koo for stock turbo. idles like stock and you dont sacrifice a whole lot of low end.

I thought the step 1 was 256/264 with either 10.5 or 11.5 lift???

HKS
step 1 intake - 256/264
10.5mm
step 1 exhaust - 256/264
10.5mm
Fine with factory valve train, of course rocker arm stoppers, springs, etc... always a good choice to do at the same time

step 2 intake - 256/264/272
11.5mm
step 2 exhaust - 264/272
11.5mm
must have upgraded valve train

I run step 1 264/264 with greddy rocker arm stoppers, peak performance gold valve springs, crower titanium retainers
