View Full Version : Ignition short?

So I'm letting my car idle 'cuz I don't have a turbo timer.

I go to turn off the car and I turn the ignition off and take out the key...

ONLY... the engine doesn't stop running.

I tried to put the key back in and turn it forward and then back out again. But nothing..

I ended up having to pull the fuel pump fuse and let the car die. (Guess I can install the fuel pump now.)

My guess is an ignition short? My key has been getting pretty smoothed down...
I don't know. Any ideas?

No turbo timer, no alarm, no electronics except a wideband, boost guage, and a biki daughterboard.

I know like you have a dozen laying arround, BUT do you think you can get another key and tumbler to see if that's it? Or just inspect the switch for somthing oviouse. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will be that easy.

that's what I'm hoping for...
Steering column will be ripped out today...

It's either one of two things.

Your ignition switch.

Or your ecu.

ignition is such a pain to replace..... I had to do it on my friends CRX..

and I can't really swap out the ECU since I'm running of the bikir0m files....

Yeah, swapping it does suck, but judging by the symptoms it sounds like the ignition switch...

First just check the wires around it. Could be shorting.

Now, do you think its the ignition switch itself? Or a relay leading up to it?
The ignition switch circuit is pretty complex.

I mean, I don't want to replace the ignition switch and find out that it was a bad relay or something retarded like that... I guess I can test the relay's first....

ah damnit..

So the fuse is fine. I started the car up again, and went to turn it off... same thing..

wideband and boost guage powered off but car stayed running.

I went and pulled the fuse IGN under the hood and it was still running... so I reverted to the previous method of pulling the fuel pump fuse..

Ignition switch is on order.. but anything I can do to drive in the mean time? Besides pulling the fuel pump fuse and disconnecting the battery every time I park?

Check the relays. A friends type-x swapped s13 was doing that and i believe the problem was a relay sticking on.

Which relay? Where?

MUTHER FUCK!!!!! I switched out ECUs and guess what? Ignition turns off..

too bad I can't use the ECU 'cuz I don't have the Biki soldered into it.
What could cause this problem? Do I have a bad ground? Am I going to tear through ECUs?
