Hey, I have a Ford F350 Truck with a 7.3L Turbo Diesel motor, and Im thinking about upgrading the turbine on her...
Well, then I will be left with a friggin HUGE factory turbine...
Aside from having to get a custom manifold for it, would it be a bitch to make it work for an sr20? and would it would at all?
As far as the spooling, it spools very low on the truck, but then again, thats got a ****load more air coming out of it...
i would say it spools around 1100-1200 on my truck...
Im not sure what turbo it is, I cant find it on the net, but its a Garrett...
Here is the replacement one, its a Garrett GTP38R, and the link for info is below, it is gonna be about the same size as that one, just not quite as nice..

Hehe, I'm reminded of the dude who went out and got a Holset FX35(I think that's what it's called) and bolted that to his KA24....boosted good :)

Likely to be too big for a low compression, small displacement engine.

its better to go ahead and try it, and become the model reason for why other people who consider this, to not do it.

Well the holset from above came with a T3 flange, maybe it'll bolt up? Try it, but not to make other people not do it, but to prove that it can be done, and that it can work well. The worst that can happen is that it'll spool at like 5000rpm, at which point you can just ditch the turbo, right?

i remember someone doing that as well it was featured on Sport Compact Magazine, the red s14, it was pretty hot and i think it cost him at least 1,200 or 1,500 for the parts, pretty good huh......276hp @ i forgot how many psi!!!

alot of DSM guys now use the HX35-HX40 series turbos...supposedly good for like 600-700hp and spool in the 3k's...never really evaluated it myself but thats the word on the street...

If the Holset HX35 is indeed a good match for small motors, then it wouldn't be a bad turbo for $600.

Ok, so I told my friend about it, and yup, sure seems like this turbo is decent.

Check it out.

Full boost by 3850rpm, that's 30psi.

Here's the dyno:

527 at the wheels is pretty dang good I'd say for 30psi and spool under 4k. Impressive! How is the durability on these turbos though running much hotter EGT's?

HOLSET HX35 turbo Legit? I can pick one of these up for cheap, no where looking to make 30psi more like 12 for daily driving. Wonder how this would rock for a low boost set-up on a KA...
