WTF kind of response was that? You linked him to an entirely different forum. The "search noob" flame only works if you link him to a thread local to the board you are on.

you can try bypassing the heater core to see if thats causing blockage.

my friend is having the same issue with his cavvy. changed the radiator, e-fan, thermostat, waterpump... basically everything except the heater core. final diagnosis... blown headgasket. it was a very tiny leak. it didn't overheat at idle. but once you drove it at any appreciable speed, it overheated.

Air trapped in the system.
The heater is off the loop when the AC is in Cold position
At least on the S13

make sure you add more water than coolant...try that. Just keep adding water.

Is it possible that you may have a coolant leak somewhere and that it has let some air in everytime you start the car?

I have the same prob. My heater doesnt work until about ten minutes into driving and I have small leak somewhere under the intake mani.

1) Did you install the thermostat with the jiggle valve in the proper orientation (pointed up)? If not, check it. Check that the thermostat operates properly and opens up for coolant flow when warm.

2) Did you pressure test the cooling system to determine if it's hold proper pressure and if there are any leaks? If not, do it. It should only cost you a few bucks. Any reputable shop will have the proper testing tool and know the proper procedures. Fix the problems, if any.

3) Did you perform a coolant flush? If not, do it. Not just a drain and refill since it will only clear out fluid in the radiator, but a complete flush and transfusion with new coolant.

4) Is your cooling fan working properly? Do you have the factory fan shroud? This will help airflow. Check to make sure that the shroud is not broken. Also check to see that the fan mechanism operates correctly.
