i bought a 97 240sx from an insurance company that i had fixed up and painted and all that but it had a turbo kit on it before (found where they had clipped the injector wires, had an emanage hooked up, tapped oil pan), i got the car back all together to stock form and i now have my turbo kit ready to go on it but i decided to test compression, i was surprised at what came up..

cly #1 195

cly #2 193

cly #3 194

cly #4 193

this seems VERY high for a car that has 98k on it.... could this motor be rebuilt or perhaps even actually built? could there be something wrong with it? please tell me your thoughts on this. thanks!

You never know you may have a built engine those #s are a little high. Maybe the head has been shaved??

imo there are three possibilities

1. motor was rebuilt

2. LOTS of carbon build up

3. Shaved head

how many times did you crank the motor when you did your tests???

it shouldn't matter. he could crank it 20 times and it shouldn't go that high.

thats not to crazy high for a clean engine. Stock they have 9.5:1 pistons and if the engine is warm and in very good condition, it could easily hit 180-195. I have seen imported SR's hit 175-180 all the way across and they have 8.5 :1 compression. I would not worry about it being that high. It basically means he has a very good engine on his hands and should not get all worried.
