is there a way of telling the difference between the 26mm and 30mm brake calipers?

I would consider that a downgrade, but why not? You can make adaptor plates and make it fit.

Fronts bolt right up. You will need the hardware though, the Z33 uses a 14mm hole in the spindle vs. 12mm for the Z32.

The stock 350z/g35 brakes use a larger rotor than the z32 and have a bigger caliper than the q45. So yes it would would a downgrade.
