taking motor out again, running no coolant lines, reconsidering water lines..depends
would running no coolant lines cause my turbo oil seals to burn/mess up faster?

I just want information regarding my question, nothing else

Turbos that a manufactured to run just oil typically have a larger oil cavity which also cools the center section. Turbos that have both have a smaller oil passage, and the cooling is provided mostly by the water.

If you run it without water it will last for awhile, but it will end up cooking your oil.

You should run the coolant lines always, it better for longivety and will help against oil coke in the CHRA which in return will kill your turbo and seals quicker.

I know a few guys that do not run their water lines...the only reason was the ease of swapping without having the fuss of the line...they just ran the lines together and bypassed the turbo...I have had my turbo out a few times and still use the water lines...I think it is worth the extra effort...switching to stainless lines for the oil is a good idea, it saves time and looks cleaner

If you run just the oil lines with no coolant line on the T-25, just take the time to let it cool down *turbo timer* before you kill the engine. I personally know a couple of people who run their T-25/28 on their SR without the water lines. Dont push it for a bit before you know your gonna have to shut it down.

Does the KA24DE have water lines running threw the throttle body like FWD SR20DET I ask FWD becasue I dont recall if the RWD did. If so you could use this as a source.

Don't do this unless you dont care about your turbo's life, like stated above some turbo's are made to run with oil only and others both oil and water cooled, in our case its both, period, if you do it, its like running with only 50% cooling in our case.

Every turbo car should have a turbo timing and allowed to cool down even if you have both water and oil cooled.

SR T25s will last fine without water cooling, so do most turbos if the oiling system is done right and you allow for cooldown. I've personally seen dozens of setups without water and there's never been a problem relating to it, people just assume that since it's there it's mandatory.
For a KA application you seriously don't want to do it since there's no good place to tap from that's easily obtained and that won't cause further air pockets and prolonged bleeding issues.

I know this is a really old thread but id rather do this than make a new one. So if i dont run the coolant lines do i need to plug then holes or just let it be. thanks

That's a horrible way to do it, running super long lines from the intake. The trapped air pockets from doing that negates any cooling you would have gained.

Someone please lock this up.

If I had to run water cooling, I'd run it just like an SR is done. Take the heater outlet hose and add a nipple to it above the level of the intake for water inlet to the turbo, then run the outlet into the block, in place of the block drain plug below the exhaust manifold. You'd need an adapter to replace the plug but it would then be just like an SR is run, with the outlet being lower than inlet, with pressure pushing the water as well as it being gravity fed. But that's *if* I ran water lines. But I wouldn't. Ever.
