| I have a 1997 240sx and it is stock right now. I wanted to know what mods i can do to my car to make about 200hp without turbocharging. I want to build my motor and get more horsepwer at the same time so in the future i can turbocharge my car. can you list each mod i can do and how much hp it will add? so far i just know about intake, headers, and exhaust. | |

| New Title ![]() | If your planning on getting a turbo anytime soon I would just save up for it. *If its a long way down the road, some things you can do now are: Intake, Header, exhaust, lightened flywheel, lightened underdrive pully, port and pollish head (no real hp gains here, but makes things smoother), new cams, ECU, electric clutch fan, umm new spark plugs and wires...umm out of ideas. *Anybody want to add anything else? Oh, and when you get the turbo you will have to get rid of the exhaust, intake, header, cams (kinda depends on what you get), and you will have to get your ECU reprogramed. *In the long run its really not worth it to do N/A tuneing just to switch over to turbo later because you will have wasted soo much money in the process. *All that above might cost as much as a cheap turbo kit or atleast 2/3's of one and won't give you anywhere near the power or potential. *With the above N/A setup you wouldn't have 200whp, maybe 18xwhp? someone correct me if i'm wrong on that. *I always say this but...if you are planning on a turbo or engine swap just be patient and don't get stuff for N/A tuneing...If you must get soemthing now cauz you can't stand not modding your car then work on brakes, suspension, interior, or sound or something that won't have to be replaced when you finally get the turbo. | Nissanaholic! ![]() | Not quite my understanding of a clutch fan, but otherwise DSC is on track. * I know there are some out there who have completely done the insides and outside of a KA and not hit 200 whp. *It ain't worth the money. * As for your request, you might try some searches based on these mods and see what people say. *First, you are just being #### lazy (make you a list!). *Second, unless someone has taken the trouble to dyno every step of the way, you won't get a valid answer anyway. Third, study up a bit on the bare BASICS of turbo and NA build ups before you ask a question like this (if you had, you would realize that about 50% of hp enhancements to NA motors are bad/useless for a turbo (e.g., headers, intake, higher comp., ECU, etc.)). Welcome - now please don't be such a nube (Edited by HippoSleek at 9:46 am on Mar. 3, 2002) |

| Zilvia Junkie ![]() | The KA's can hit 200hp without too much stress. Id figure it would involve mostly head work. Nissan built up a KA24DE that was going to be used in the old Z car prototype and the KA in that concept Z was putting down about 200-210hp all motor. So if Nissan can do it and then use it as a production engine, it must tell you something about the engines reliabilty at that power level and streetability. |

Ever hear of someone with one? IIRC the old Z concept "would" have had a 200hp n/a 4 cylinder, the concept had a regular KA cause it was test mule that needed a engine. They never actually made a 200hp ka for the old Z. They would have made one eventually but the feedback for the old concept was horrible. |

| Thanks for the help everyone. I reconsidered about turbocharging my car and I don't think I'm going to anymore. I just want to be able to hang with/smoke most domestics. It doesn't have to be all in particular but just enough to hang. Can you guys help me reach that goal?

| Premium Member ![]() | Do you mean your 1/4 mile time with nitrous? If I had to guess it would be about a 14.5 and a 0-60 of about 6 seconds, again those are guesstimations. With your $2000 you could get a exhaust, header, intake for alittle over a $1000. If you pay to have them installed then it will cost you for that header. Then with the extra money maybe get a 40 shot of nitrous and make sure you get it professionally installed if you have any apprehensions about installing it yourself. |

| Hey, that's my Passport, Aya ! ![]() | ok guys, time to dispell more rumors . first off getting 200hp out of a NA KA is not as hard as some of you think. Its been done many times here in Cali and the motors have been smog legal. you guys really need to take a look at the socal240sx.org website look at Alex Changs car. He has JWT ecu and cams a $1000. upgrade and he is pulling close to 20 more hp on a KA24De with just those mods now add intake, exhaust and a few other things and you are going to wind up very close to 200hp. Rebello racing in Pacheco will build you a 210 hp KA that will pass smog for $3500 Now the thing to remember here is this. If you are going for that kind of horsepower NA you would bump your compression up to 10:5 with JE pistons $750 . Lighten your flywheel , balance your bottom end port your head ,drop those JWT cams and ecu and for about $2000-$3000 you would find your self right on target at 200 hp NA . NOw if you are planing Turbo then the only thing you would want to even think about doing was the ecu . JWT does reprograms for their ecu owners for $100 i.e. you buy it now for $500 for more stock performance when you set the turbo up they recurve it for the Turbo. thats it in a nutshell . proven ways you can go that do work |
