hey guys. wow this sounds like such a newbie post but i havent messed with wheels & tires in like 3 years, so i pretty much forgot all the knowledge i used to have...now my brain is strictly filled with engine swap info haha....ok neways, my s13 is gonna be in a few car shows this summer, so i gotta get rid of this big ass gap in my wheel wells. i cant drop the car anymore cuz the kit is already too low to the ground. right now i have 205/40/17 wheels...im getting new rims soon so i figure ill scrap the low-profile tires and go for more rubber to fill the gap. now, my, question is, is there a big difference (in terms of filling in the gap) between getting 17" tires with more rubber (i.e. 225) or 18" tires with more rubber? i know that the rim is centered obviously so rim size doesnt really matter in terms of filling in the gap, but im wondering if the difference in tire sizes will make that big of a difference between the 17s and 18s. cuz if not id rather just go with the 17s, i really dont want to slow my car down. but im also wondering if merely getting bigger tires on 17s will fill in the gap a good enough amount (id like to get another inch or 2 covered by the wheel). anyways, all suggestions are welcome & appreciated. thanks!

Sounds like you need wider rims more than anything...

i dont think it'll fill your gap, the 1 inch which or what not, (17 to 18) will make your car a little bit higher i believe. just try with 18 with low profile tires

it depends on the overall wheel/tire combo diameter. If you want to stay within stock specs, there's really nothing you can do. Otherwise, my advice is more tire can visually make the car appear to be not as high (think stock wheels on stock suspension, then think 17's on stock suspension).

If you want to mess with your overall diameter, larger would be better since the body kit lifts up slightly. In that sense, you get more balance since there's a little gap on the bottom of the car, and gap in the wheel wells.

It's pretty simple to understand.

Just remember that if the overall diameter is larger than stock you speedometer is going to show you going slower than you actually are.

hey guys thanx for replies. yea i came across that website right after i made this post...i did some math for various tire sizes and it looks like 225/45 or 235/45 are my best bets for a higher tire. but im worried that 235/45 will rub...anyone using this tire size? lmk, thanks!!
