s14 oem cd player problems

I have searched for the past 3 days on here and Google, but nothing pertaining to my problem.

I installed the factory CD player in to my s14 zenki, radio comes on but does not illuminate, i can switch channels through the FM, and sound comes out of the speaker. but i cant see whats going on.

Everything is oem, no spliced wires, all plugs are there, radio harness is uncut!
does the radio have to be put in its place to act as a ground?
that's the only thing i can think of..
all dash lights work and illuminate perfectly.

checked the voltage at power wire I'm getting around 12.. checked the illumination wire for voltage and I'm getting around 1.4.
checked the dimmer switch illumination wire and getting the same 1.4v, and dimmer is working just fine..

any help i would appreciate it...

So this factory CD player has a radio too? Most likely, it's a bad unit. You should find another one on eBay and try it out.

Lots of old nissan radios the display burn out, this is what happened to yours. Nothing you can do but buy a new radio

Face plate can be removed. If yours is newer and better, keep the main unit/body and just swap the face plates.

then check scrap yards. any double din Nissan radio up to about 2002 should fit no problem cuz Nissan used the same wiring harness, with the rear speakers on one plug and the rest on the other, in almost all of their vehicles
