So today as I was driving home on the interstate I noticed that my autometer oil pressure gauge started to move around from about 50psi to 20psi and lower. My first though was that im low on oil. I then checked my oil level and saw that it was good maybe just a little low so I added some oil to my engine and went for a drive. The gauge was reading normal but then after about 20mins it started to bounce around again. My guess right now is a bad oil pump? My motor is a KA with a t28 turbo. Anyone ever experience this problem? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily driver

if you not leaking oil then my best guess would be the oil pump is going bad.

better replace it before its too late

had this happen 3 times to me, 1st two times it was the sender on the gauge and the last time a line on my oil filter relocator popped off o_o

I would trouble shoot a bit before I decided to crack into the engine and replace the oilpump. Check the following.

Gauge
Sender
Oil lines/fittings
Look for any oil leaks.

Does this problem start once you get in boost? A while back I had an oil line that would only leak at WOT.

I know I need to replace my rear main seal but its not leaking that bad and my oil level is normal. As for the sender how did you know it was bad? Did you have the autometer gauge? Where did you get a replacement from? Thanks

If you have the sender mounted directly to the engine it is most likely on it's way out, they are known to go out due to the vibration. AMS, prosport and other companies make a 'remote mount' kit for senders that help the life of these somewhat fragile senders.

Ive got the sender and the oil feel line running from there. It is very possible that the sender could be the problem. Its just kinda scary to be driving along and see your gauge do this crap lol

Did you use teflon tape on the sender? If so, check to see if the sending unit has good ground.

Use a volt meter and touch the body of the sending unit to a good ground. If you have 1 volt or more, the unit has a bad ground.

The other way to test it would be to check the ohms. 230 ohms at 0 psi, and 270 ohms at 100 psi.

I did use teflon tape on the sender. The whole area is nice a dry. However I will check the ground tomorrow. Thanks for the advice
