Exclamation Ill effects of bypassing clutch dampener

You know that box that makes you have to double bleed the clutch...? I know is common to bypass those, but Ive heard conflicting experiences whether its good or bad. I read this post: http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...bypass+dampner

but they didnt say anything about the possibility of dislodging the shifter fork from too much hydraulic force when bypassing the dampener. Maybe the guy i herd it from had too much fluid in his system? Anyone experience or hear about this when bypassing?

Thanks for any info
[PS: im not just asking randomly, im dumpin my auto for 5spd and wondering to bypass or not during the swap...]

Here's the link that tells you what you need to know to take the box out. I did it and only difference is that when you switch to the next gear at a high rpm you feel the revolutions at your feet a bit more. During regular street driving you don't notice the difference.

Just do it!!

I noticed more noise when downshifting. Would I do it again?

Meh. Probably not. I didn't notice any difference in the feel of the clutch, and bleeding was never that hard anyway. You still need two people to do it.

You noticed it because when you downshifted the lower gear was probably in high rpms. Same thing....I would feel it while I was still at high rpms before the next gear engaged.

My clutch always had a spongy feeling engagement, like it had 2 seperate engagement points... really annoying, and very hard to get used too.. After the SS line, and damper removal, the clutch engagement feels much more linear.

Of course this COULD be due to the fact that I flushed the system with new fluid, and it is easier to bleed without the big box to catch air. Who knows !?

It does feel better though. My Girlfriend, and 2 best friends also concur.

I didn't notice much of anything. The only difference is probably due to the fact that I flushed the system and adjusted the engagement point of the pedal to a better height.

considering 89-90s dont have it from the factory, i would assume its perfectally safe.

BS.

I have an 89, and mine had it. I removed it with a Taka Motorsports SS Line.

I like it a lot better now. The only real difference I noticed was that I could feel the vibrations on the pedal a lot more. I have had no detrimental side effects.

no, i defenitly dont have one!! the hard line goes down, bolts to the frame, then turns into rubber and goes right to the slave cyinder.

sorry, i assumed all SOHCs didnt have it, maybe its just 90 hatchbacks.

my friends 93 went in for a clutch master to get replaced, and the shop gave him a free bypass line, we went under after and the damper box was gone, and it has a rubber line? i guess they didnt want to bleed it so they bought a rubber line for it. it looked just liek a stock brake line. withthe like crimp on stlye ends, nto jsut a hose like clapmed on it looked like it was definately made for it.

It's just the stock line that normally goes from the box to the slave cylinder. All they do is unhook the hardline from the box, bend the line some and hook the old brake line to the hardline.
