KA High Compression 240?

i have an 89 with the stock KA24e in it
turbos are nice but i was just wondering if theres anyway to get decent power out of just my stock engine. ive looked into high compression pistons and new cams all that stuff but ive never heard of anyone who has good power in a 240 with out having a turbo or some bastard v8 swap.

so basically unless im made of money and have tons of time is it just pointless to build up my stock engine with out turbos?

just looking for some feedback

Just buy all the bolt on upgrades in the world for a KA "E", install nistune, get it professionally tuned and call it a day.

They Raced the Ka24E a little more than the DE, I believe, so Do like The guy says above. "I/H/E Cams Yada yada." Then Lose weight.

Me I vote for all Bastard swaps. Because honestly they are by far the best. Maybe you need to think about that.

Single Cam is Ok. Maybe go Carb Single Cam like the old S14 racers. Someone is gonna say im stupid. But thats ok, cause I love myself just the way i am. HaHAa

yea its not worth it.

plus if you wanna mod a car its not cheap.

if you want a decently fast new car go lease/finance one.

you could buy one already swapped for cheap also saves time and money and headache.

or just get a motorcycle - cheap and fast.

Both the KA24E and the KA24DE are more potent engines then people give them credit for, but in the end N/A is expensive. In order to get good power from a KA you would need to at least mildly build the engine, give it a full compliment of bolt-ons, and have a proper ECU set-up. You could spend anywhere from $4,000-$20,000 building a KA depending on how radical you want to go. You could build it for cheaper if you are resourceful and know how to do the work yourself though. IMO a mildly, but intelligently, built KA would be a pretty cool thing to have and would probably bite more then a few SR heads in the ass.

people that usually build a n/a ka aren't looking for raw straight line perfomance and big hp they look for response, response and more response.

I have a ka-t with a t3/t4 and I've taken my car to tight circuit tracks where response is key and I have to say that a 200hp n/a ka would probably smoke my laggy turbo ka lol

so if you want power go turbo, if you want instant response go n/a(even a tiny ass BB turbo won't give you neck-snapping response compared to a built n/a motor)

thanks everyone for there input and keep it coming

yeah my N/A 240 is just an idea put some extra horse in my car for now
cuz eventually i wanna drop an rb26dett but i dont have the money for that

my dad own's a machine and fab shop so that will cut my cost down in my build and im not taking it to any shop ill do it all myself no labor charges

and im not looking for like huge power outa my engine just more then i have right now.

im just thinking all new bearings, seals, rings, forged high compression pistons, new valve train pretty much, shave the head, new cam, injectors, fuel pump, Cold air, headers and exhaust and it'll be more fun then stock
oh and Nistune cant forget that

You forgot a few things that are important to get the kind of results you need to warrant going through all that work.

1-Mild head porting and a mildly ported intake mani.
The head and intake mani are the KEY to making power with ANY N/A engine. You don't need to go crazy here just make it better.

2-"street" cam
Without a cam (or cams) you're not really going to gain much anyways.

3-balanced & blueprinted bottom end
In the end this really isn't that expensive or difficult and it will help the engine rev better and make it a little more responsive. I would have the crank lightened as well.

I wouldn't quite go that far, but in the end the SR has far too many advantages to ignore. For the average joe though the SR is the way to go if you feel the need for real power.

electric motor, and batteries in the back, hooked up to the drive-shaft with a belt should give you some decent torque. No this is not a joke, I'm talking about serious swap, find a Prius and get all the electric parts and swap it over, Just mount all the stuff in the rear.

Awwwww, I'm flattered... I'm pretty sure the internet would catch on fire if I was a mod though.
