S13Sr Transmission won't come off.

Im trying to replace the throwout bearing, but I can't get the transmission off. I have unbolted the slave cylinder, The starter, the driveshaft and all the bellhousing bolts. It will slide off a little bit then get stuck.

Ive tried lowering the front subframe, but I don't know how far it will go. My theory is that because I have solid motor mounts, the engine won't tilt and let go of the transmission.

Im stuck and the tranny is stuck. I will pay someone 50 bucks to come fix this.

All help is appreciated,
Jake

You sure you got all the bolts off? Try pull and rock it up and down from the tail shaft. Just make sure somebody's ready to catch it when it does come off. Once its off, thats when the real fun begins. You'd have to play around with it and spin the housing to get it completely off since itll more than likely catch on the firewall.

One thing I tried also is get pieces of wood and jack up the motor from the edge of the oil pan so you can get more tilt, also make sure your car is jacked up high enough so that you don't have to work in a tight space.

are you sure the top of the bellhousing isn't hitting the firewall. when I did my clutch I had to unbolt it, separate it from the block and then rotate it 180* so the top of the bellhousing wouldn't hit the firewall or trans tunnel

With SR's, once it's slid about an inch or so from the motor you have to turn it so housing won't hit the firewall.

That's how it is with my 180 anyways :S
I'd assume it's the same for SR swapped 240's.

Yep its stuck on the firewall. Im gonna rotate 180* and try again. Then Im gonna bang the shit out of my firewall so it will be easier next time.

That or pul the whole motor/tranny.

This is probably the biggest pain in the ass ever. Worse than changing an alternator in an MR2......

Loosen the motor mounts

use a block of wood and jack and jack it up the front of the motor

wiggle it out and done

The fun part is putting it back in.

pleasseeee dont bang the fire wall...

just loosen the lower engine mount bolts ( kinda pita) but make sure you leave the nuts on. then take a jack and small peice of wood and jack up on the front of the oil pan. This will tilt the engine more than enough to get the tranny off..

i like to take a nice beefy flat head and slip it in the crack between the block and trans and work my way around it while someone wiggles the hell out of the tail of the trans. works like magic every time
