Kouki 14; Non-ABS model. S13 Trans and j30 VLSD.

5 speed swapping.
Took a driveshaft from what I thought was a "non-ABS" kouki in a JY.

Now, I couldnt get the bolts D/C'd from my kouki's Diff. [Out of fear of stripping, I hate open ended wrenches]

I read that only the front part of the shaft is different anyway.

I had to D/c rear shaft at the carrier bearing and drop it down to attach to the 5 speed front shaft [which I already inserted into the trans]

It seems as if the Whole shaft is too long once connected at the middle. When I go to press the shaft up to reconnect the carrier bearing to the mounting holes it wants to push the whole trans assembly/motor foreward.

Do I need to swap the rear shaft too or am I just being a little pussy and I just need to push a lil harder beh-bey?

if you have to force it somthings wrong

i would say you want at least 1/4 inch of drive shaft plunge into the tranny even though the rear end dont really move

the j30 diff is a lil longer you might have to swap in into a open diff housing or go back to your old set up that worked

Well my old setup is Automatic

So the entire front part of the driveshaft shouldnt be placed all the way into the trans?

There is a possiblity that I'm using a s13 trans crossmember....

Transmission crossmember is the same.

The added length of the snout on the differential is your holdup. Technically with it installed you need an ABS driveshaft. However, driveline differences from engine, transmission, diff, even subframe mounting points can take up some of the length. My old car always fit snug and sometimes it was genuinely tight since the transmission was out so many times, but a little work got it in. You may find you don't have enough clearance though and will need an ABS shaft. Loosen a few other mounting points and try for more room.

As for the rear bolts on the driveshaft, take a 14mm box end and grind it flat a little, slips right in, then you can double up another wrench for more leverage.

Just measured the trans crossmember a second ago haha.
I searched another thread that led me to believe that it's the snout.

I was worried that grinding the box end down a little would weaken it too much. I obviously over think.

Well, I swapped in a stock open diff. Using a Non ABS driveshaft. Shit connects but it sits flush on the trans... It rubs the trans when spinning.

I dont see how this mistake was made it connects at 2 places!

Figured it out.
I decided to go around and start measuring the transmissions I have available to me.
s14 kouki trans -> 33 1/2in long
s13 trans -> 34 1/2in long
s14 Zenki trans-> 34 1/2in long
[my] s13 sr trans-> 34 1/2in long
[Dave's]x2 s13 sr trans-> 33 1/2in long

I was under the impression that all KA/SR transmissions were the same [except bell housing] Why are the s13/s14zenki transmissions longer than the kouki?
