Worn out Z32 ebrake shoe?

Hi, after 6 months of driving with the R33 ebrake convertion (same as Z32) on my S14, I still couldn't figure out what is the sound that happens everytime when I engage the ebrake. And it does not lock very well.

Symptoms:
1. Only at a low speed (1~10mph), a "bung" sound is very obvious when I pull the ebrake.
2. I am still required to pull the ebrake handle to the top (highest I can pull) in order to initiate the engagement. Here I live in San Francisco where at a deep slope, my car just barely able to lock itself in order to park. (It woill still roll a bit if I push the car with my body force)

Solution tried: So far, I've never pull the ebrake at any speed over 20mph. I have used a R33 ebrake cable (installed to original cable mounting point by modifying the mounting bracket) and tightened the adjuster to max. Tighten the adjuster helps locking at parking a lot better since I was not able to engage the locking at all before, but the "bung" sound remains.

Question:
What would caused that "bung" sound? What symptoms would a misaligned ebrake shoe gives? Does my ebrake shoes look worned out?

Here's a picture. Yes, the right one is missing a metal peice, but it was fixed prior install.

Compares to new (oem Z32 ebrake shoe from FRsport)

Another view.

Any thoughts are welcome, and much appreciated.

I agree. Plenty of pad left on that shoe... shoes take a REALLY long time to wear down under normal use. I suppose if you were drifting a lot you could wear them out pretty quickly. But just parking normally, they're not going to wear much at all.

Lower adjustment thingy is far out too, so you don't have much room to adjust. Yes, pads looks like new. What kind of rear rotors are you using? I wonder if inside diameter is a little too big? Borrow z32 OEM rotor and try.

What lower adjustment thingy are you referring to?

I have R32 GTR brake setup, so according to the chart below, I have a 297x18mm rotor. It should be the same size as Z32 rotor?

Here is what I have.

These. By turning them, you can move the shoes go outward, so they can grab inside of rotors better.

I would loosen the adjuster on the e-brake cable to only expose a few threads, ~5 and then adjust by the adjuster circled in red.

Thanks for chipping in but please read thoroughly on the OP. These adjustors have been adjusted to max, but served only mini help.

Sorry, I missed it.

I don't know. Is it just me? Inside of the rotor looks like worn out pretty bad. It doesn't look like it's wearing evenly. If it's not the rotors, only thing that I can think of now is location of mounting brackets under the car.

As far as the noise goes, I wonder if you've noticed a small gap here(red arrow). When you pull the e-brake handle, shoes will move forward and they will hit anchor bolts, so the noise could be coming from there. Does that make sense?

I spent a long time with e-brake assembly when I did my z32 brake swap, so I'm very familiar with the mechanism. I'm anal too, so it took a while to adjust e-brake shoes perfectly.
