Crank pulley help

So I have ca18det and i'm trying to change the timing belt but my crankshaft pulley bolt is torqued down by god or something, I put the car in 1st w/ the e-brake up, using a breaker bar, and after a few good rotations the car turns over and backs up alil, I don't have Air at my place and I'm trying to refrain from buying an electric impact or lodging the breaker bar and cranking the engine, anyone have any tips on getting this bolt loose? i'm going to pick up a strip wrench but i doutb that'll hold.

Dont be a pussy jkjk, but seriously, Ur car should not be rolling in gear. Since it is put something under the wheel to stop it, spray some pb blaster, wait a min then use said breaker bar, If you cant get it get a bigger beaker bar. Air tools are over-rated.

they should be reverse thread. I know that you dont want to lean the breaker bar against the frame rail but that is the easiest way to break that bolt loose. all you have to do is tap that starter and its loose.

Okay, here's what you do.

pull fuel pump fuse.
place socket and breakerbar onto crank pulley nut.
leave it in neutral.
close hood/tire into enginebay to absorb the momentum of the breaker bar.
Crank.
Superman that hoe.

OP, if you put the car in a higher gear such as 5th with the ebrake pulled the car will be less likely to roll foreward while you are torquing on that crank pulley bolt. If you still cant get the bolt off, put a pipe on the end of your breaker bar and beast that shit.I wouldn't try that cranking the engine method unless you want a breaker bar through your hood or fender and a stripped crank bolt. If all else fails go fend someone with an impact wrench; they work great.

It won't fuck shit up if you've got the right bracing (the breaker bar should be unable to freely move).

I've done it a buncha times.

Get a breaker bar, a pipe, a hammer and hit the end of the pipe as hard as you can.
Human impact gun y0.

It should break loose.

Wooly I am a tech, I understand but i'm out of options, I have blue point gun but as I said I don't have air at my place and I can't take my car to work to use there air, and before i pay for 2 secs of labor i'm going to try one of these methods, i'll try 5th gear i didn't know that, if not i'll let you know know which part of the bay my breaker bar landed in

WHY are you leaving it in gear? Do you really want your car to jolt at you?!?!

Keep that shit in neutral.

I've come across a few forums that say put it in gear, and the engines just going to keep turning over if you don't, guy from works letting me use his electric impact gun, and a tech thats been doing it for decades told me to remove the starter and wedge something in the flywheel. I won't try the cranking it unless i run out of options... thanks for your input guys I appreciate it, i'll report back saturday and tell ya which, if any, worked

SR Rise from the grave.

Glad to hear an electric impact gun worked. I am stuck on the same issue, my bolt wont turn without the whole motor turning. I'm currently waiting on my friend to bring his impact gun.

Put it in 5th gear or highest gear and then use a ratchet with breaker bar.
