power door locks seized up because of cold weather

pretty sure thats what it is

i got it open then i couldn't close the door it was hitting the metal latch

pushing the power locks won't do shit

turning the key doesn't do anything

right now i put it in the garage to defrost but what can i do to prevent it again

try dry graphite lube, it is used for this purpose. oh and you can get aerosol de-icer, might want to keep that handy.

Doesn't sound like a frozen actuator, the actuator simply prevents the latch from opening when locked, your problem sounds like the latch itself won't release.

You may want to try fully closing the latch and then releasing it. Use a screwdriver to push the latch closed and then pull the door handle to release it.
