Twice in two weeks I have broken studs off my spacers. The first time was in the front and I snapped off 4 studs leaving just one lug nut behind to hold my wheel on. The last time 3 broke off in the back.

The wierd thing is the spacers in the front were like a month old and the ones in the front Ive been running for two or three years. Both happened on the same side.

Question is what are the best hardened studs to use and who sells them. Ive looked around and cant really find what Im looking for.

Will they fit inside spacers, or are they only for the hubs? Not my area of expertise so some advice would be appreciated.

What about an ARP stud, and weld it to the rear of the spacer, and grind it down flush?

i dont know if this will help, but a short time ago somebody posted this same problem, i think in had something to do with the spacer or wheel having movement and it broke the studs, but i can't remember if it was the unbalanced wheel or something about the spacer... if you search for something like "broken stud" or something like that its bound to show up in the search...

Install some extended studs onto your hubs. Then press all the studs out if your spacer and just slide them onto your hubs with the extended stud.

Do you use a torque wrench to tighten you wheels?

No no torque wrench.

My spacers are much too thick for just extended studs. Can you use HARDENED studs in regular aluminum spacers?

OP: question about the studs you're talking about that you broke... are they extended studs, or are they studs that are pre-pressed in on bolt-on spacers?

imo, since you said you're running thick spacers, I'd recommend keeping oe studs and getting bolt on spacers. I wouldn't really recommend getting extended studs with slip on spacers for anything longer than 15mm, especially if they're not hubcentric. Too much stress is placed on the studs, thus probably why you're breaking them.

The biggest question is how cold was it outside when it happened?

I snapped a brand new grade 10.5 bolt with 20lbs in 30*f weather.

Maybe he torqued them down durring freezing weather which kills the structural integrity of the bolt.

Every spacer that I have ever seen is made of aluminum and every wheelstud that I have ever seen is made of steel. How the hell are you supposed to weld steel to aluminum?

That's very unlikely 30F weather can reduce the shear strength of steel that much. You have to freeze the metal down to cryo. condition to make it brittle enough to snap it off with minimum force. That's what I've learned from metallurgy.

For wheel spacers, especially the bolt-on type, you really have to torque it down with torque wrench, and it helps too if it comes with a hubcentric ring to ensure the wheel is in center.

They are bolt on spacers. It wasnt very cold when I bolted them on, maybe like 40-50 deg. OE studs no problems its just the studs on the actual spacer that broke. Its just really wierd that four out of five studs broke and Im wondering what the hell was wrong.

Has anyone taken studs out of a regular aluminum spacer and put studs of thier own choice in?

If so what studs did you use and where did you get them?

These are some no name spacers. The ones in the back I have run for 2 plus years. The ones in the front about a month.

If the studs snap that easily I would not use those spacers again until you changed out all the studs, because they sound really weak the way you are describing them. You might be able to get some oem replacement studs and pressing them in. Not to sure if the pitch will line up properly. How many mm are these spacers?

hit out a stud from the spacer, go to a junk yard, and do some trial and error on some nissan and infinity lugs

Wouldn't trial and error be bad because if you get a lug with a large knurl you'll ream out the spacer?
