Thoughts on ATF in oil..

Personally, Seafoam wouldnt touch my engine - esp my oil. However ive read for years about some ATF in the oil, but cant get any solid facts or experiences.

I would be adding a couple ounces of amsoil synthetic ATF to my 5w30 amsoil and running it for a few day before changing.

Im mostly concerned about the timing tensioners, and It seems the person who had the car before me never changed the oil in all 30k miles he had it.

Before I put about a cap full of ATF in, has anybody had any good/bad experiences with this?

yea, atf in the crankcase is an old school trick for an engine flush. It's basically like a really thin 5w30-type lubricant. back in the day it was the only treatment to a engine flush before new chemicals came out.

I used to work at a oil change shop in high school ,sadly enough. So, older people that worked there, you tend to pick up some "old school" tricks.

People run ATF due to the fact that it contains so many detergents

Thus cleans out the motor pretty well.

Just make sure you don't use too much.

it's fine 1 quart ATF, 3.5 quarts of regular oil.

Don't be scared because it says ATF on it.

Yea, lol, I usually throw a capful along with the normal amount of oil when I do oil changes in old motors.
