Let's bring this one back from the dead.
Tommorow I am installing a flex-a-lite fan and spacer to alleviate an hot engine. *The parts I'm using are:

1316 16" Fan
880 *1" spacer with 1-1/4" pilot

I'll post the results in a few days.

The install failed.

In addition to the 880 spacer, you also need another 2" spacer with the standard pilot width.  I had that spacer handy but the screws neccessary were not on hand.  We took it down to autozone and asked to "borrow" a 240 waterpump to see what screws we needed, they ordered them for us and it should be here monday.

I just got rid of my mechanical fan. I wired my electric fan so that it turns on when the car gets too hot, or I can flip a switch and have it run all the time. The is a slightly noticible power increase at low rpms I think.

your car doesnt overheat when you remove the mechanical fan? I was scared shitless that the car would overheat if I took that thing off. I want to take it off but I wasnt sure if the electrical fan was strong enough to cool by itself. Ive removed my AC so it doesnt even really do anything right now.

I just wanna add that you should be careful if your installing the metal flex fans. They turn into rotating blades when the car is running. I know someone that cut his finger off from one on a V8. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':nervous:'> . Personally I'd go with a electric fan.

Install Successful.
My car had a chronic overheating problem, and turning on the AC meant definate overheat within 10 minutes.
Fixed.
The one side effect is the noise.
It sounds like a auto transmission whirring.
I'm thinking about removing the fan shroud to reduce the noise, good idea?

My next project will be to install a transmission cooler.

I may be wrong, but if you remove the shroud, the fan won't be as effective because it won't be sucking as much air through the radiator, instead it will get the air from around the radiator. &nbsp;Bad idea i think.

i dont have a shroud. &nbsp;and i live in cali. &nbsp;my car does not overheat. &nbsp;my fan is not always on. &nbsp;i have a switch to turn it on when i feel like it, or switch it back so the Temp sensor turns it on. &nbsp;doesnt mater if you have ac or not. &nbsp;the fan still turns on when the coolent hits roughly about 200*
