I took my car to a mechanic to fix the idling problem and an overheating problem. Egr valve was loose, timing was way off, and thermostat wasn't there. *He wanted $130 to install another fan clutch but i've already been through 3 and have lost my faith in clutch fans, so i decided to drive it home to install a flex fan. *I took it out of the shop and the thing was running so damned good. *I slammed the accelerator, it moved like I wanted. *But on the way home the car started to get hot, and the performance started to degrade steadily and the needle reached the 2nd mark from the top. *We let it cool down, installed the flex fan, and.... it's gone back to the way it was before. * What could the overheat have done? It feels the same way it did before i took it to the shop(total lack of acceleration, slam the accelerator and the car stutters, rpms fly up and the car moves slow, but eventually reaches a decent speed.). *What could have gone wrong? *Where do I start looking? *

We've already changed the transmission fluid thinking it was that, and no dice. *I've recently serviced the AIV valve, cleaned out my throttle body to keep the accelerator from sticking.... * What next? *I want to avoid taking it back to that shop, or any shop for now (broke).

sorry, forgot car info.

Have you tried replacing the thermostat yet?  A sticking 'stat can cause this very problem.

With the new flex fan, the overheating problem has been solved, and the needle barely nudges from the middle mark, and only that nudge when the ac is on (and it's hot, I'm in florida). &nbsp; What I'm aiming to solve is the return of my total lack of pickup/acceleration.

I drive an 89 240sx.. This is the third 240sx I've owned, the car will be a lot faster when cold because the radiator hasnt heated up... Notice that the intake hosing travels right over the top of the radiator, and has a lot of space to get through to get to the intake manifold.. When the car heats up, your car will be slower because of the air heating up.. The Injen cold air intake with extension fixed this for me, my car is always as fast hot as it is cold now! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

SORRY didnt see the part about the clutch...

You might want to check your compression to make sure that everything is still tight after the overheating problem. &nbsp;Overheating happens quickly and can easily damage the head gasket and/or the heads.
