I just bought new wires distributor rotor and plugs (from discount auto parts), installed it all and the engine doesn't seem to be idling properly? I figured out that the distributor only goes on one way, the right way. If you are on the drivers side front fender looking at the distributor, it has (I guess it is called a air vent) the air vent in between the two of the terminals closest to the ground. The one on the right has a #1 by it so i am guessing it stands for cylinder #1. Now I need to know which ignition wire goes were on the distributor. Please tell me the order in clockwise fashion. I also figured out online that the firing order is 1-4-3-2...Is this correct? If so then shouldn't I put the #1 wire at the #1, then in a clockwise fashion continue w/ 4-3-2??? Hopefully that made sence! I will be needing my car later on tonight so hopefully someone can tell me the right order pretty soon! thanks

it should look like this

cylinder 1 cylinder 2

cylinder 3 cylinder 4

this is looking at it straight on with the #1 wire at the top left on the distributor

I thought the fireing order was 1, 3, 2, 4
I really don't remember though...still haven't bought an FSM.

Edit: but knowing the fireing order doesn't really matter much for this.
Just hook them up like boosted said an you'll be set

OK that didnt work...Maybe it is b/c you are S14 owners and I am a S13 owner? Your way didnt even try to startup, but if i have it like this
3 4
2 1
then it starts up but idles really rough at 700rpm and when i give it throttle it bogs down like mad then stuggles to 2000rpm then runs pretty smooth after that?

Anyother suggestions?
maybe the gap on the spark plugs is wrong b/c the cap and rotor were wrong when i first went to D A P. I then return and got the right ones.

ok, now it is time to get more info from you

did you take the distributor out of the motor?

sure you bought the right rotor, it surely not your gap on your spark plugs

things to do:
1. check timing w/ timing gun, should be like 20btc, should be the same for the s13
2. check continuity in each of the spark plug wires
3. make sure you did not put anything back to gether wrong,(if you touched anything)

No i didn't take the entire distributor out of the engine. Just the cap and unscrewed the rotor! Whe i found out that the first rotor was bad it was b/c the metal piece in the center of the distributor was too fat for the new rotor. The stock rotor has a 3 located on the plastic and the new rotor also has a 3 so am pretty sure it is right this time.

I don't have a timing gun for i am away from home in college!

I have juggled all the plugs connectores and all seem to be on tight, but i am going back down stairs to make sure everything is put together right!

Ok when i was down there i switched the 3 and the 4 and it worked. I had no reasoning behind the switch, what was yours? I don't know if this was happening before i changed the ignition stuff but now it sounds like it is backfiring after i blip the throttle to like 1500 and let it drop down. Is this normal? I am still blowing black smoke out the exhaust, so the ignition system wasn't causing it? How can i get my cruise control to start working again? I doubt you would be able to answer this but how can i get my headlights to go back down. they are stuck up! *little brat* hehe

well, if you look at my setup, it is just upside down compare to yours.!!!

might seem that maybe when the plugs where on wrong, fuel flooded the cylinders. if it doesnt go away, dropthe gap a little

How can i get my cruise control to start working again? I doubt you would be able to answer this but how can i get my headlights to go back down. they are stuck up! *little brat* hehe

these question, ? i dont own a s13 so i dont know where to look for causes thatcan do that to the flip up headlights. as for cruise control, check you fuses and if the fuse is good then it may be either your switch or your relay

ok, do u have any check engine lights?
what exactly happens at 5000rpms, (like shuts off, like hitting the limiter, bogs down, rpm rise buy speed either stays the same or decreses)

to decrease the gap, you need to get a gap gauge and you simple tap the arm part of the plug near the electrode until the gap is decreased until your setting u want. since yours is na, drop it down from a 32 to either 30 or 28

The last nissan i had was a 1991 sentra 5spd, and i would go over the limit a bunch of times w/ that car. It obviosly didn't have a rev limiter so when you over rev it it is still alive, but it just wont go any further, and stops making power! That is almost exactly what it feels like when it gets to 5000rpm...way below redline!

nah it can't be the clutch b/c it grips good even when i drop the clutch! It isn't like the engine keeps accelerating but car doesn't, but more like everything stops accelerating, starts back firring realy bad, and just all around bad timming! Do you know were the ecu is in an s13? I looked at the FAQ section and it seems like it is located inside the passenger door...is this true?
