Almost finished my drift car up and I slapped the D1 rear brake pads on. Pull the hand brake and no lock. Idk if it ever did lock because I bought the car as a shell. Any ideas? I checked under the car and all the clamps are in place. Obviously I need the handbrake to work haha any help would be appreciated thank you.

Have you tried adjusting it? Under the handle there should be a 10mm adjustment nut.

I did. Before the handle was floppy and now it's firm just doesn't lock the tires

Check your rear brakes (calipers are known to go bad on these cars), mine locks up no problem. Caliper may be seized or have limited range of movement.

I would agree with this statement BUT I bought brand new rear calipers to avoid that hahahaha and the dumb thing still doesn't work.

So you pull it up and it locks in place but pads do not clamp? It's a very simple mechanical system with two cables. Make sure everything is there physically and adjust from calipers to handle. Using ebrake for drifting is either for noobs or for pros.

So if you've adjusted the handle portion and you're sure the calipers are working appropriately, up to and including the spring on them is not worn, then you need to change your cables. I haven't encountered this but they may be stretched. Considering you got it as a shell who knows.

(I have a pair if you need)

I'd chime in and ask if you feel any tension at any point when pulling the handbrake? If you don't, try and wedge a screwdriver under the cable, and use that to add additional tension. See if that applies more braking pressure. If it does, I would say it's time for a new cable.
