i havent popped off a 96-98 door panel off to see for sure.. but from what i was told by russ... they dont have an external one.... but the 95 do...-96-98 have diffrent plugs.. also...

u can crack open the amplifer to see if a circuit on the board is burned.. a friend of mine soldered the circuit .. to make a complete connection.. thats how i got mines fixed.. to figure out whats wrong ur window mechanisms ur gonna have to test each one out... by that i mean manually..

mines was narrowed down to a faulty switch, which brought down the whole window system to gettin replaced...

89-95 uses an external amplifier, 96-98 it's built in to the switch, part of the redesign to make it last longer.
Plugs are different for 95 and 96-98, but you can swap the entire door harness to use a newer model switch in a 95, you'll just need to pin it for the OE alarm.
Motor retails at about $360. You can use a passenger side motor on the driver side but you have to notch the sheetmetal in the door to clear the casing on the motor, it's apparent what it needs when you try to fit it.

at this point im sure its the motor and not the power window switch, because i just bought the whole switch new, replaced it, only to find my window still wouldnt go down.
im also not willing to spend 350+ on a new window motor so i either find one in a junk yard or my window will never go down again

Anybody you ask will be clueless. I have a 1994 240 SX - SE (convertible). My drivers side window wouldn't go down. The electrical tech computer at the local body shop said the problem was the window power amplifier in the drivers side door,,,,but nobody could find it !! The key,,,, it was located behind the back seats next to the power relays for the convertible top ( you'll have to take the seats out to access the electrical harness )
