96 IAT problem. help!

Ok I have a 96 auto s14. We bought it as is and it had the CEL on. Got it checked out and it said Intake Air Temperature sensor, and that bank 1 was running lean. I read up on here about the IAT and it seems like that is not needed. There is just a cone filter there so we dont have the IAT but the plug is still there. The car is hard to start sometimes and runs like crap. so my question is what is the problem? and how do i fix it?

If bank 1 is running lean you may have a bad/lazy o2 sensor. Is there any way you can get a hold of a scantool and do a datastream. See if the o2 is fluctuating voltage. Also, try searching on how to clean the IACV (Idle Air control Valve) on here. That might help too. Goodluck!
