OEM Turbo Guide: Makes/Models and OEM Turbo Information
Ok so I've seen a couple of threads around the net like this and figured this could be something useful to other folks on Zilvia. The idea here is to post any information on the turbos used on other OEM boosted applications. For instance, Volvos, Saabs, VW's, diesel trucks, etc. Some of these cars did come with turbos that could be useful to us Nissan folks so if you know anything about them post up. I'll get us started with a couple.
This thread contains a huge list of oem turbo vehicles and which turbo they run: http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17457 Nissan S13 Silvia (SR20DET Redtop and Blacktop): Turbo Type: Garrett T25G Compressor: T-25, 60 trim 56mm 0.80 A/R BCI-1 compressor Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing Bearing Type: Journal bearing S14/S15 Silvia (SR20DET): Turbo Type: Garrett T28 Compressor: T-28, 60 trim 60 mm 0.60 A/R BCI-1 compressor in T-04B housing Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing Bearing Type: Ball Bearing (Journal bearing pre 1996) N14 GTi-R (SR20DET): Turbo Type: Garrett Compressor: T3 Super-60, 60 trim 60mm 0.60 A/R BCI-1 compressor Turbine: T-25, 79 trim 53.8mm 0.86 A/R turbine housing, Inconel Turbine Wheel Bearing Type: Journal Bearing Dodge 96-98 2500 and 3500 5.9L Turbo Diesel Turbo Type: Holset HX35W 12CM2 Housing: Twin Scroll T3 Compressor: 54mm x 83mm Turbine: 58mm 98.5'-2002 2500 and 3500 Turbo Diesel Turbo Type: Holset HX35W 12CM2 Housing: Twin Scroll T3 Compressor: 54mm x 78mm Turbine: 58mm Volvo General Information: Volvo has used turbos on tons of cars. In terms of general availability in your local junkyard or used parts marketplace, this may be one of your best options for finding a usable turbo from an OEM setup. They mostly use Garrett and Mitsubishi turbos such as the T25, T3, TD04, TD05, etc. I'm working on tracking down more information on this but there is a lot to sift through considering there is 25+ production years of Volvo cars with various turbos. I'll add more as I find more during research. If anyone sees any errors or has anything to add post it up and I'll edit this post.

Mostly nerdy shit I know but these turbos can be had for cheap and are going to be better than any chinese shit you get on ebay as long as you have them rebuilt or they're in good condition when you pull them. For folks on a budget who are actually taking the time to pair things up somewhat properly this could potentially turn into a good resource.

This is true. I've read about people swapping exhaust housings in favor of used units that meet their needs in order to correct this problem. I'm sure you could purchase or manufacture an adapter as well. I'm by no means a turbo expert though so I don't know how plausible that actually is.
