Dev, if i am not mistaken the panic brothers used the same on the celica. They just did a repin, since mark is a genius on wiring.

wow i kind of left you guys on a limb!

alright so, i sold the non vvti 1jz to a buddy and my vvti came in!

heres the new powerplant

If you know me, I HAD TO tear the engine apart and start making it all pretty..

A diesel powerwasher does wonders..

engine paint For The Win..

The inside of the head was a tad bit dirty so i did a little cleaning..

Intake manifold is now a sparkly black.. with fresh new gaskets!

She is just waiting for an engine...

Fitting the cross member to make sure it lines up right..

Time to reveal the theme.. PBM engine bay!

Also got my tial blow off valve!

The engine sure is cleaning up nicely...

Did a little cutting to fit something special

TAAADAAA!!! (i'm stoked on the fitment and position) I just need to find out what hood pins i am going to run now...

Harness goes out this week to get re-wired, by Mark Panic, and getting an AEM from John Reed.

All that is left to do is get an exhaust made, along with some intercooler piping.. The car should be running by next week if all goes as planned! fingers crossed..

I remember when I would watch that sweet video you made of the red car, to get me pumped up to go work on my car haha. Glad to see that you are back, the build looks quality so far. Keep it up!

I haven't updated this in a while so here we go!

I decided to paint some more shit orange.

engine defiantly taking shape, and looking much better ..

Finally got the engine in, without the tranny to see how it would fit, and it didn't fit the greatest... It needs to be moved over to the left more so the starter clears the tranny tunnel, I'm thinking about beating in the tranny tunnel, but i just painted it...

i re-wrapped my whole harness in my engine bay..

tried towing the car to a shop to get an exhaust and intercooler piping made, but it turns out i needed to do a little more shit before they could do that..

as of right now this is where she sits.. i attached the hks twin disk clutch and r154 tranny.. it just needs to be dropped in now!! wooooooo!

Hey man, good job on the build. The engine looks really clean, you're doing good work.
I have a question though. For a 1jz swap, I've heard that you're not obligated to use a swap kit like the tech2 you used and that stock 1j mounts would fit the crossmember and all you'd need is the tranny mounts. Am I wrong?

I've been contemplating a jz swap for a while now but the 2k+ price tag for the kit and harness mod just seems a bit much for what it really is...

thanks and keep up the good work!

You need some kind of bracket/crossmember for the 1j to fit.

And "2k+ price a bit much for what it really is.."

2k for what?

well a complete swap kit that I've seen when I was looking around yesterday were pretty much 1500$... and having your harness made is anywhere from 500-1000$...

As far as engine/trans brackets go u do not need the tech2 kit... I bought the Get Nuts Lab brackets, a stock trans mount, and reused my nismo engine mounts to get it all mounted up. Wiring all depends on how much quality you are willing to pay for... Re-using old brittle plugs/wiring or brand new plug and play harness thats where the difference in pricing is

Read up in the 2JZ Swap thread all these things have been addressed

what worries me more about the wiring is if I do it myself, I might get tired of the stuff and might not do it entirely properly. And I know you know that sometimes motivation isnt always there. So I'm trying to keep it fun. My contacts where I'm from are pretty limited but I'm looking at respectable shops on the interwebz for around 750$ for a proper harness. I want to daily drive it too so don't wanna mess up/take off too many things. What kind of stock trans mount did u use? sr20?

Finally got around to bleeding the clutch, and wow, the hks twin disk doesn't feel as stiff as i thought it was going to be.. I can't wait to actually drive it and see how i like the clutch..

Also went out and bought some oil finally, there hasn't been oil in the engine for a while now, and i wanted it to be lubricated once again. Bought some AMSOIL 5w-30, with some REDLINE MT-90 Transmission fluid. It was the most expensive oil change i've done so far.. the 1jz takes 6 fucking quarts..

Also got around to just tightening up random bolts, and installing the throttle body, so the shot doing my IC piping can see what to do. The engine is getting closer and closer!!

does anyone know if i need to run these, or can i delete these.. I'm running an AEM ver. 2, so im unsure on this..

it's been a while since i've updated you guys! Since my last post I have towed the car to garage 808 for them to make me a custom exhaust and intercooler piping. They are doing a damn good job, here are some pictures.

The downpipe is looking RAD with the tomei extreme elbow!

Finally got my intercooler piping made along with my tial BOV, also my harness from mark panic is installed! The harness is BOSS!

I'll have more pictures of the completed exhaust soon!

A little update on the progress. The car is finally out of the shop. What they did was

-Custom 3" downpipe with pie cuts.
-Custom 3" mid pipe to exhaust
-Wideband bung on downpipe
-Intercooler piping
-Custom intake pipe with blitz SUS air filter
-Cut water neck
-Modify throttle cable bracket
-Eliminated coolant flow through throttle body
-Mounted Tial BOV

and some damn good clearance, perfect exhaust.. lol
