I'm looking for a good exhaust system for my '92 s13. I know very little about em, but here's what I want out of it:

First off, decent performance gain.
Quiet (at least at lower rpms). I am NOT fan of fart tips
Factory, dual tip look.
I also want to retain the 240's legendary torque, which means a bit narrower piping if I'm not mistaken. . .

I was looking at the HKS Sport and Borla exhaust systems, have heard good things on both, any other suggestions (at perhaps better price ranges :-) )?

thankee. .

I would also like to know more info on the Borla for our cars. On their website www.borla.com the 240SX isn't listed in their choices of cars, so I'm wondering if they offer a Borla for us. I tried to contact them about a month ago about requesting info on the 240SX exhaust, but I haven't heard back from them yet. All I've heard is that they're pretty pricey, but I'm not 100% sure.

Does HKS have a website?

www.hksusa.com they don't have a lot, not even an application chart.

The only cat-back dual tip exhaust for the 240sx is the Apex'i N1 dual. It's exclusive to the RX-7 and the 240sx only. I got one, and it's a very good exhaust. it has 2.75" piping or something, but since it has dual piping, you retain more midrange torque, but a bit of low end is still lost.

A plus to the N1 dual is it's quiet at low rpms (1-2.5krpm) and loud all the way to 6krpm. It's not raspy or high-pitched, it's very low and bassy. My mirrors vibrate when I accelerate.

If you don't like the N1 dual, just get a muffler with dual tips.

Thanks for the link Anthony!

If you go to www.hksusa.com and click on "Search" then click on "Products" toward the bottom of the screen, the picture is of the HKS 240SX (which some of the parts on Mark's car came from)! That's kinda cool!

Borla "discontinued" the 240sx exhaust a while back, but I heard rumors Nissan Motorsports still got them. Checked it out, and lo and behold, a Borla exhaust at http://nismoparts.safeshopper.com

Specs (off of the 240sx.org reviews page):
2.25" mandrel piping
stainless steel from head to toe
dual 3" tips
and $410 price tag. .

I don't buy the argument about the dual pipes. The thing that helps out low end torque is high gas velocity. High gas velocity comes from a smaller diameter pipe.

All two smaller pipes do is add up to one big pipe.

Are there any REAL NUMBERS to back up the APEX'i claim???

An AWESOME exhaust would be to have the dual pipe set-up with a valve that blocked one pipe for low rpm in order to take advantage of small pipe/high gas velocity and then opened to allow the exhaust to go down BOTH pipes for high end/low restriction. Ferrari has something similar.

Does an exhaust really give you much power on an n/a 240? I would think that you wouldn't see more than 5 hp at the wheels.

I could feel the difference when I installed my N1...probably 5 or 6 hp. It also climbs alot easier above 5500. Exhaust also improve sound and looks.
