Well, I think everyone knows what today is... Picked up the RB! And its HUMP DAY lol... anyways, drove about 4 and a half hours down to Gainesville, a little outside of Atlanta, to pick it up, and I was pretty happy with it aside from a few things he needed to keep that I will need to buy, but not a big deal, considering I am fully building this engine. Here is a quick parts list of what I have looked into so far, tell me what you think! CP pistons, Spool Rods (rated at 1200hp WOOT!!), Tomei cams, ACL race bearings, extended crank collar, harmonic balancer, standalone ecu, rb25 tranny, 1 piece driveshaft, and a t3/t4 not sure what trim size yet, want a fast spool, help me! And with all this, planning on running about 500HP... show people that RB20's aren't so bad Anyways, on to some pics...



Got it back to the shop 4 or 5 hours later..











So couple of questions... will the KA starter bolt to the RB? What axles/rear end do I need to hold up 500-600hp? Do you guys know anything that isn't on my list that i will need? And anything else will be helpful! thanks!

Running a precisiou 6262 or 6264 will get you to that 500hp you want. They both have really quick spool (on a jz motor) not sure how they will react with a 2L. But if you really want to spool faster, you could always invest in a Sound Performance Quick Spool Valve. Its roughly $700 after QSV and switch for the stand alone. QSV can increase your spool by 500-800rpms quicker, based off application obviously.

Many have tried, all have failed. Because RB20's suck. Sell it now and run the KA, you can thank me later.

Sounds like you need to do a LOT of research on turbochargers and the chassis you're currently driving before you build a 500hp engine.

Obviously you did not read or comprehend the post. I know nothing about sr's, ka's or rb's. I even stated that i did not think it would spool quick with a 2L. I have been running JZ's as im new to the 240 world. Everything you pointed out, i stated in my post.

Well I spent today freshening up the RB by doing a pretty nice paint job on the valve covers, have a little bit to finish tomorrow, and also going to do the timing cover, PM me if you want full instructions on how to do this, did it all myself without having to pay for powdercoating!

Aircraft stripper is the way to go!! Took like 2 hours... sanding took forever so decided to do it

Post up what the final product on the back seat, that is how I found the thread to begin with. My next focus will be my Sparco interior upgrade (seats, steering wheel, shifter, 4 point harness). Then knocking out my SR swap since I made a deal involving the Ka motor currently in it. My focus will be turning to the back seat area in Febuary/march.

Here are a few updates and some new pics, put in some cheap gauges just to get rid of my cracked center vent. Once i finish the next project i am working on and get some money im going to send the Rb (which is now free of manifolds, and all acessories) to the machine shop to have the crank collar installed, have it bored, honed, and hot tanked, and have some head work done, as well as putting in the forged internals anyways here are some pics, enjoy!

I like your direction with building the rb. I've kinda always rooted for the rb20, but I like the instant torque of a v8 so I'm going 1uz. Why not 1j though?

Thanks for the love man, now that i have made some progress on the car not everyone is hating lol. I found the swap on craigslist for a really good deal, and although its not a 25 or 26, its still an RB and the 20's are pretty rev happy and can be built to a good amount of power with some money. of course, everyone will agree it may not have the stock potential of a 25/26, but with the forged internals rated at 1200hp and doing headwork and everything im doing, shouldn't have a problem with ragging it out for years and still going strong. im going with some tomei cams that arent too intense (256) and ive heard that gives a good amount of torque/throttle response. I also plan on getting everything through raw brokerage, ive read a lot of good things about them, and it seems like the owner ricky is very knowledgable on what he is doing

I have a soft spot for the RB20 as well and It is perfect for what I need it for. Theyre rev happy and 300hp is easily do able with minor boltons.

UPDATE!! Finally got around to pulling the head off and I'm pleasantly surprised with how good everything looks like on the internals side of the engine. Of course the pistons and rods and whatnot don't really matter, since I'm going aftermarket, but nonetheless they look good! But I am really happy to see that there is no scoring on the cylinder walls and no discoloration on the top of the bottom end from overheating. Plus, the valves and pistons are extremely clean, the letters and markings on them are still visible, no carbon buildup, and the head gasket and everything were in pretty decent shape! Probably have to go oversized valves for the tomei cams? Need to do some more research. Here's some pics:

Quit worrying so much on what everyone thinks. Build it how you want it. Even if its with an ugly hood or fake brides/wheels, or fanboi windshield stickers. I do love your paint job though lol.

Oh and p.s- dont post pictures of you posing next to your car like that. The way I pictured you looking like while reading through the thread was exactly how you look haha.

Clean 240 man. keep up the good work. Its good to see that there is another rb20 believer in these mountains. iv got a 89 coupe w/rb20 swap ive been working on for the past few years. wont be going crazy with the engine build as it is not in my budget but everything has been mic'd and checked for spec. As for suggestions for your build i would do your research on the rb20 and see what its capable of a lot of people dont give it the credit it deserves for various reasons, the guys in NZ and AUS are all about the lil rb20. At the end of the day tho its your car and your build so keep the wrench turning man.
