S14 Sunroof Trim On Going Problems

So I was thinking. Would you think people would rather pay say $450-500 for a drop in solution (with weatherstrip seal) or $250-300 for the fiberglass trim piece (which would require removal of old trim, cleaning and prepping of glass then install and cure time) and weatherstrip.

Thoughts?

If the 450 option is literally unbolt and resemble yes. But if you have a good in depth install video i thing it would attract more diy type people to buy the 250 version.

Thanks for the feed back. Yeah we all are pretty much a diy owner. I guess I could make both. Or try to make both. That way there is the "cheaper" route and then the "expensive" route.

Yeah I knew they sold those still. I was just mistaken bc we are thinking about doing clear side marker lights for SC300/400's. So when he said "clear covers" my brain went somewhere else.

Oh really?! Thank god. I didn't want to have to go kouki. I saw someone say in the Zenkis Unite thread that they were out of production & impossible to find now.

I got a donor glass and trim I bought over a year ago I need to swap on but since I'm doing my swap and the cars outside I put it on the back burner. I'm down for a new replace trim and seal.

Yes sorry for not posting sooner. I talked with the fabricator and he has been out on business in another state. He is returning this week and I will be heading up there to drop off the sunroof for molding.

Wow I have no idea why this didn't post. Anyway, GOOD NEWS!!!!! I have dropped the donor sunroof off at the fabricators for Initial R&D. He's willing to give it a shot and attempt to make a mold. He said that they may be other options but for now he's trying to recreate what we desperately need.

I am interested and willing to help out to get this damn problem fixed. I am decent at CAD and have access to a 3d printer and Faro arm scanner, but not one with a big enough bed to print a full trim piece.

Do you know what year your donor glass was out of? I know the 95 and 96+ glass can't be swapped with each other unless you swap the whole rack as well, some kind of mounting difference. Not sure if there's a difference in size of the glass itself. Probably worth validating. The glass and trim might be the same, but would probably effect your "drop in" replacement options.

I have a spare glass with busted trim sitting in my garage, subscribing for a solution.

From looking at Nissan parts number the 95' vs the 96-98 does have a different part number. I will have to verify which glass I got. Pretty sure its a 96

I tried to make a trim and every company I worked with let me down at the end. Hope you get somewhere with this. Every s14 glass/ glass trim is the same btw.

The issue at hand is that somewhere In the process of this being made at the factory, te glass is mounted to the sunroof "frame and then the fiberglass trim is attached permanently. The company is taking their time trying to figure out how to separate it from the glass.

keep in loop. ive been plagued by a leaking sunroof for 2 years now...and everyone who swears they have a full assemlby is constantly jerking me.
so right now im in the junk or 95 sunroof, or something else that works right.
Perfer an option under $400 if possible. but an option of 800 isnt going to pan for me.

We will definitely try to keep the cost as low as possible to where it is affordable for all owners. $200-400 is the goal.

UPDATE!!!! UPDATE!!!!

I went back to the fab shop today and the guy told me he was having trouble separating the trim and didnt want to damage it as he knows how important this it. So I took it home and looked at it for like an hour. I finally figured out how to remove it in one solid piece!!! There are a few blemishes from removing the 20 year old rubber weatherstippring but all in all I can no go forward with getting this piece into a mold. Here are some shots from just a little while ago. I hope no one has given up on me, as I know many have tried and all have failed at trying to recreate this magical piece.

The way that I see this going is once the mold is made I will try them out of a handful of cars and test them. Car washes and daily use. If all goes well, then I will inform everyone of the news and do a how to video and install instructions. Once the trim is removed the glass with need to be thoroughly cleaned and I will try to supply the glue to bond the trim to the glass again. If not, I will include what I used to complete the repair.

Awesome dude. Like I said in the beginning, I'll be more the happy to test it out. Got money ready for when the molds ready. It's been raining none stop over the last days and vacuuming water out has not be fun.
