might be an alternartor? I mean if the battery was fully charged the car would start, but if it was sitting after you drove it a bit and the alternator wasnt charging the battery it might not start. will it turn over if you charge the battery?

btw, small questions thread for this kind of stuff man

Oh my bad man, im still trying to learn how to work this site . I charged it once after it died on me and it worked enough to get me home and turn it on occasionally . I finally moved it yesterday after sitting in the drive way and out of no where it died and i tried jump start / charging it and it didnt work at all.

Thats not a very scientific way of determining whether or not your battery and electrical circuit are good.

Voltage of a good battery, 12.5+
Voltage needed to view the clock, 8-10v?

jackass...

Also clean the battery terminal connections. I've had a loose terminal cause this same thing.
I would turn the key, radio came on, dash lights, etc. Go to crank the engine and everything goes dead. No power.

I mean absolutely no offense here but if you really feel like you're in over your head, have it towed to a shop and inspected professionally. The starting system can be pretty easy to understand but the electrical system as a whole can be pretty complicated. If you want to dig into this yourself, get your hands on a factory service manual and follow the troubleshooting steps for no power and failure to start. That will give you the proper procedures and testing steps to find your problem. At a minimum you'll need a basic voltmeter/test light, beyond that a set of wrenches and sockets for removing the alternator and starter.

For what its worth, I hope its something easy to fix like a fuse, relay, or loose ground. Best of luck.

+1

i bet its the terminals. try tightening them down. look for bad/cracked terminals and loose wiring as well. also do as suggested and clean them.

no. there is no possibility that it is electrical. electronics totally do not run off of electricity. it must be hydraulic or pneumatic.

Might have a draw in the electrical system draining the battery. As stated get the battery and alternator tested and double check over all grounds. Honestly just sounds like you have a dead battery and for one of many possible reasons the charging system isn't charging it.

Take it to a mechanic, clearly you have no idea whatsoever what you're doing.

If your clock dies every time you open the door, your battery is bad. Try jump starting your car.

See threads above, they might help, otherwise if its a high mileage 240 I would point to the starter solenoid, they tend to go out before a starter or alternator would.

I've posted about this in the past, so I'll go ahead and throw a dog a bone

With the early S13 (my 90), one of the constant problems was not enough power going to the started solenoid. This most likely had to do with resistance from the ignition switch and/or wiring. The car would CLICK CLICK CLICK and eventually start if you kept at it.

You'de change up the starter and the problem would go away only to return months later.

Solution is to rewire your starter solenoid with heavy gauge wiring and a relay, the shit works proper.

Thanks to all! I worked it out. It was just the ground wire that was loose!
