fuel gauge reading different after fuel pump replacement

The Fuel gauge would always drop off the F mark when the trip was at 190 miles then after the original fan clutch went bad it would drop off at 160mph and my gas mileage dropped to about 20.5. Replaced fan clutch 3 times now, on the second oem one, and it remains somewhat engaged all the time. Cant figure that problem but 14months ago had first fuel pump replaced. It failed a few weeks ago and had another one put in. After the first replacement pump I noticed that when the gauge was low it would read a little high compared to what it had always would in the past and low fuel light would never come on and one time I ran out of gas. When Tay (240sx specialist here in the DFW area) put in the second one in few weeks ago he said that the floater was not snapped in and was just dangling and the black cap or whatever thing that screws in wasn't screwed in all the way so the last place appeared to have not put things back right after replacing the pump. Now I noticed that my gauge dropped very early at 66miles which it has never done that. So could it be the floater got damaged before when it was dangling or what?

The fan clutch is unrelated, post a picture of it/the engine though, someone may notice something wrong visually.

The fuel gauge should gradually move down as you go through a tank of fuel, definitely sounds like something wrong with the float.

Also, tech section!!
